Maps for the Matches

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-10-23 · 9 posts
The current system for the TWL ladder means that 3 maps will be used for each "match". THis create a problem of which maps are suitable and which aren't. At the moment I can think of 2 particular maps that either have a large terrain bug or are just slanted in one teams favor. In the map Snowblind there is an obvious advantage that can easily win a game or lose it (especially when mau has a pult but keeps getting stopped in "The tunnel"). As you can see here:

and if that image isnt working then: http://www.NoCookieHere/viewpubimage.asp?id_=4995076

The south has an obvious advatage just from the map, but what is even worse is that the southernmost passage is actually a tunnel which means theres nowhere to run and nowhere to hide my friends. While up north they have a wide expanse that is ALOT more difficult to defend : ).

And it ends up the terrain bug I was talking about has been fixed so thats not a problem. However if you find an extremely unbalancing terrain bug you should probably post here (dont be specific) so that the TWL guys can look into it. Feel free to post if you think that a map is very unbalanced also (I think) and again they can look into it.

edited to make link work, grr
and again and again and again and again, oh well a written explanation will have to do till I get some help learning how to insert simple pics : )

Snowblind will definately need to be looked at and possibly pulled. Are there any other maps that need to be considered?

i think a little editing on that map could probably fix up the problem.. perhaps we could ask the devs to "fix it"

Morning is unbalanced toward beasts in my opinion (they are way more apt at rushing than humans and can take down grimms wall in a matter of minutes and can get shamans like a minute or 2 after that) but that can't really be changed otherwise I can't think of anything right now polaris.

border war is pretty unbalanced imo, the ridge in front of the base is highly accessible for summoners and it's hard to reach them up there...plus there is a terrible terrain exploit for the beast leap to go over and behind the enemy stronghold, and since TWL isn't going to police terrain exploits, it'd more or less be easy to exploit that, too, giving beast teams a number of advantages on that map.
If you can pinpoint the terrain exploit that would help. We have pretty regular access to the developers and I am quite sure they will help us clean up these problem areas.

I disagree with this, it is very easy to get up there and is not all that difficult to police especially if you have a garr in the middle, or the SW spawn. If you have niether of these then yes they may be able to take out a couple of towers before you get there, but thats just an associated risk for the map. Heck could complain that pults could fire over the ridge without even being seen.

About the bigger maps. Will they be used? Just wondering since it can be kinda boring to play smaller team games at them. Just somthing to take into consideration. Tuskan Flats and Savage Grounds are those that come into mind as being kinda big for small team games, possibly Alpine Valley as well.
10 on 10 isnt necessarilly small games though it might be a problem for 7 on 7, I dunno probably end up trying them out and making decision after that.
