Laptop is fucked...help!!

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2012-11-10 · 31 posts
All my broswers are crashing, as well as windows host process rundll32.exe

Firefox, IE explorer and chrome all crash constantly, since last night. Chrome wont work at all, if it doesn't crash upon startup then any page I open I can't scroll or click on anything. Firefox and IE explorer crash constantly, but strangely it doesn't close down. It has crashed 4 times since I started typing this post, but yet I am still typing.

Updated AVG and ran a full system scan, it found a toolbar installer and deleted it, and I updated and ran malwarebytes and it found several trjan updaters and adware, deleted it all.

What else can I try?
Buy a tablet. I'm done buying laptops.

Not to worry, he doesn't spend that much time on the pc. Not an issue. Now if his goose traps got rusted or he ran out of moose lube, that would be an issue. Good day eh!
Tried ccleaner, still happening.
Restore point?
Restored to 3 days ago, long before the problem ever started. So far firefox seems fine, of course it's only been about 5 min. But Chrome is still crashing. The crash report is a bit different though. Not sure what is going on.

Backup your important shit and re-cut the drive.

It's your only hope.

Sandpaper is the obvious solution.
Go into safe mode with networking. See how everything works in there.
If it's working fine in safe mode with networking, then it's likely a bad driver or bad update install.
If you'd like, i can remotely connect to you & see if i can fix it for you. Let me know if you do.

best advice. If you can't roll back or ID what the issue is, just take your losses and backup what you need and reformat.
I'd have formatted/reinstalled my os well before now.

It's a laptop, though. They don't give you setup disks anymore on those things... They expect you to download the OS and burn it yourself... As for the peripherals and mobo, aren't you screwed?

Depends on the manufacturer. My Asus ROG laptop had everything set up to where all I needed was 3 discs for recovery and run the program to burn the CDs.

Did a test run with a hybrid SSD / HDD and it worked flawlessly. Also has a built in driver update after installation.

Want the EZ way out? Format your hard drive and re-install windows.

Need to get something off the PC? Try to get a few thumb drives, boot in safe mode, and transfer what you need.

Otherwise my suggestion is to download a bunch of anti-malware freeware like malwarebytes, AVG, spybot search and destroy, or one of the setups that installs multiple free anti-malware software in sequence and runs through a bunch of scans with them automatically (I can't remember wtf its called damnit...)

I am interrested in this.
It's not going to be malware or spyware

What kind of errors are you getting?

It might pay to pull one of your RAM sticks and see if you can boot with just one.
1st, what os? 2nd, I've heard of issues with flash and multiple versions with different browsers. Especially with Chrome and Firefox. And that seems to coincide with a restore and firefox working. I would wipe out Chrome, all together. Reboot and try everything else and make sure it's working.

If you're deadset on having chrome, try installing it again and see if the problem comes about again. If it does, do some research on flash player \ multiple browsers \ multiple versions.

Interesting. I uninstalled flash, and firefox seems to be working, though it seems sluggish to me. Not sure if this is just the way it is now, I haven't used it as my main browser since chrome came out.

Otoh, chrome is still crashing, but it's different. It crashes the first few times I try to get it going after the laptop has been off, then it works fine.

Fucking computers, they cant get this shit right yet?
I told ya, just let me connect to ya & i'll take care of it
I'll probably take you up on that stones. I no longer have the patience to troubleshoot for days lol. I'll let you know one of these days, today I'm busy working on 2 estimates, have to get these out the door, so to speak.

The majority of manufacturers will list the drivers on their website - and a few of them will also include a 'recovery partition' that can be used to 'restore' it to factory.

@DRF - whats the make/model of your laptop?

Most of the failure comes from the user, not the computer
vote for Obama, he will give you a free laptop, right after he takes over your business for the state comrade.

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

Yeah because having ID to vote is racist except when cashing a check, opening a bank account, applying for credit, job application, etc.

Whatcha waitin for DRF? two 'obamaphones' to sweeten the deal?

When you have a problem that causes an issue .0001% of the time what do you do? YOU FIX IT! You make it a priority. Fuck the economy, fuck foriegn affairs, fuck jobs, fuck banks.

Only the .0001 pecent of voter fraud occured with absentee ballots, and the ID requirement doesn't fix that.

New slogan for the GOP. Vote Republican, we fix the problems you don't even know you have, even if they don't affect you.
