France closes embassies across the world in fear of violence... asks where to send reparations.

A French magazine's decision to publish cartoons depicting a naked Prophet Mohammad triggered a new wave of fears at embassies in Europe, even as anger at the west continued to sweep through the Muslim world.

France announced Wednesday it will close 20 embassies in Arab and Muslim nations after the weekly Charlie Hebdo published the controversial cartoons. The images threaten to further inflame Muslim protesters and terror groups, who have demonstrated against the U.S. at embassies around the world since an anti-Islam film went viral last week.
...
...
...
The magazine's crude cartoons played off the film and ridiculed the violent reaction to it. Riot police took up positions outside the offices of the magazine, which was firebombed last year after it released an edition that mocked radical Islam.

Charlie Hebdo's chief editor, who goes by the name of Charb and has been under police protection for a year, defended the cartoons.

"Muhammad isn't sacred to me," he said in an interview at the weekly's offices, on the northeast edge of Paris amid a cluster of housing projects. "I don't blame Muslims for not laughing at our drawings. I live under French law; I don't live under Quranic law."

Okay... they're not willing to pay reparations yet.... but they did close their embassies.
I think every freedom loving person should mock Mohammad and Islam. If you believe in freedoms then you have a duty to mock Islam.

extra security paid by host country (edit: Spain) for American Intl Schools, starting today.

they also swept the place and did a security review/assessment last night.

wasting their time, it's just not that type of environment here.

Spain is so generous... paying for social welfare, unemployment, extra security.

I'm glad they have such a vibrant economy.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to mock a religion, just like I don't say you shouldn't be able to whack a beehive with a stick. But if you've got a lot of people with a track record of killing people and getting more radical because there's an institution that converts your, to be perhaps generous, well intentioned mockery into propaganda, perhaps giving them fodder isn't ideal.

Now enter the naysayers who will subscribe to the maxim that any action or lack will incite the same blind backlash, and use that to justify an indifferent or caustic attitude with regard to what actions to take. I would argue a cynic all too often watches a wound fester to demonstrate its inevitability, whereas a scientist abandons methods manifest as folly.

If (radical?) Islam is a cancer, the world either needs to lop off the limb or try to find better medicines. Obviously I'm in the latter camp, but my real point is smoking doesn't alleviate lung cancer.

That's why I prescribe agitation until the point of provocation.

Until they either get used to having their little beehive hit with a stick, or until they act up enough for us to justify the decimation of their entire hive.

This idea that we let them do whatever they want to others because they are perhaps too sensitive to criticism isn't exactly an option for me. I willfully walk on eggshells for nobody.

Fighting stupidity with even more stupidity.........

People should have every right to protest anything they want to, whenever they want to. They do not have the right to destroy another persons property, life, over these protests.

But considering France's stance on revolutions and protesting, I'm not exactly surprised by this stance.

If they kept their hive boundaries/size in check I would let them do whatever they want.......but when they want to kill people and destroy buildings for images produced half a world away I have a hard time sympathizing with them.

Western fanatics, no matter how insane, have gotten forcefully accustomed to being mocked and ridiculed by other religions, atheists, and it's about time they did as well IMO.

It's either that or we limit our freedoms and what we can/can't say.......and you know where I stand on that.

stop and think, France essentially said "we aint stopping what we are doing, we are gonna talk and laugh about it if we want, AND you will NOT burn shit in our country using a demonstration as a pretext.

meanwhile, in the US, the White House asks for the "offending" video to be removed.

it is time we all stop and recognize that today, France had more balls than the USA.

Not the first time......nor the last time.

Fair assessment in my eyes.
no problem with shutting down wrongfully violent protest, however it is not defensible to ban any protest while stating you are protecting the free speech (and validly so) of things like controversial videos

i disagree.

when the community has shown their proclivity towards violence, I dont see a problem shutting them down for the short term.

fuck them, Pix! fuck them! we can make a deal with them, sure:

"if there is violence or the burning of anything other than a cigarette, y'all kicked out of the country, be fucking civilized, people!"

edit: pixel and every1 else, do NOT forget these groups burnt a shit ton of property outside of Paris...HAS BURNT, many times, a ton of shit while protesting whatever whatever. they cannot be contained once they start.

it's like hooligans, but religious based. i see no probelm in protecting the city from what we all know will be the most likely scenario if these assholes march

edit: here is that I am talking about, sure, consider the site, yet the information es real, u can track the indicents in the regular news, these people just compile them all in one site http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2012/08/france-riots-2012-more-muslim-violence-rocks-french-district-in-north.html

that is too arbitrary. i see muslims everyday in my communities that i frequent that are just a functioning part of our society. simply rounding them up as accomplices to their extreme brethren is just the beginning of the destruction of reason and freedom.

believe me, it was just a few uppity Jews and Gypsies at first.

this one time...i dont know about any other times....I do, but they dont come point right now, I am saying this ONE TIME, the west should not adjust and apologize for our speech freedoms, which are not as great as a lot of people think, but way better than in those sandshitboxes they call countries.

simple stated, they TOO have double standards, and theirs are blatant. when they come to our countries they demand to wear their robes and rags, and for us to respect their women as slaves, and their oppression within the clans. But, oh send yo momma in tiny short over there and she will be arrested, not by the cellulite police, not the lippo police either, it will be some shitty ass religious dignity charge.

fuck them, pix.

If you have a half a brain and a functioning set of personal values you'd reconsider your reactionary response. Just because some asshole in another country reacts to some other asshole in a Western country doesn't make it 'OK' for you to double down on being a reactionary douche to out-douche them.

My head hurts.......

I agree with Pixel in saying that people have a right to bitch IMPO. I also understand, given France's history, why they don't want people being able to start a protest.

I side with the people more than I do the government......but I understand, from the governments perspective, why/what they were are trying to achieve.

here it comes

how far will America bend over to placate these people?
So lemme guess:

We need to curtail free speech in the name of political correctness akin to shouting "fire!" in a movie theater?

Just as we need to give up our gun rights so we can curb a drug war that our country is funding and providing the guns for.

O bullshit. Our gvt was trying to stop the violence by providing those guns, one of which killed one of our agents.

Speaking of killing, I read about someone testifying before congress (Joe Lieberman / Susan Collins) that the murder of our Ambassador in Benghazi was a confirmed terrorist attack.

So if thats the case, then why has the WH been saying that it's because of the video? Read this:

Collins also sharply disagreed with Olsen’s statement that the attack did not appear to be planned. “Based on the briefings I have had, I’ve come to the opposite conclusion,” she said. “I just don’t think that people come to protests equipped with RPGs [rocket-propelled grenades] and other heavy weapons. And the reports of complicity — and they are many — with Libyan guards who were assigned to guard the consulate also suggest to me that this was premeditated.”

If (radical?) Islam is a cancer, the world either needs to lop off the limb or try to find better medicines. Obviously I'm in the latter camp, but my real point is smoking doesn't alleviate lung cancer.
So basically what you're saying is that Christian groups, KKK, Nazi's, etc who get negative media published against them should become more violent and easily agitated to shut it down.

Check.
