The governments hiring....they are always hiring....primarily because they are the only ones hiring.

I went to San Bernardino yesterday and I have never seen a more depressing downtown shithole in my life. Every store front was closed up like it was in a Somalian warzone. The only buildings prospering were the Courthouse, the DA's office, the police station, Chase (bailouts), and the SEIU.

Just find an employer who is somehow sucking the life out of someone else. It's about all we have left in America anymore.

your military service ought to count for something too, damn.

When the financial sector imploded 3 years ago now, did the thought occur to change the major?
Dropped out of college, landed a career lolz...

It's time to get uncomfortable. Look outside your area and even outside your degree.
My brother graduated with an Agricultural business degree 8 years ago... Ended up working at:
Macy's - 2yr (sales associate then buyer)
Prudential - 3yr (I don't know what he did, started out doing bullshit but they paid for his MBA... Ended in a deptartment that got cut out soon after he got his MBA)
Unemployed/school - 2 years (started getting his CPA)
Price Waterhouse Cooper - 1yr (auditing)

So, the kid is 30, and he's in an entry level auditing job with a bunch of hungry 24 year olds... He started out @ Macy's selling shit @ the Men's department then getting a job buying for the department

Was shit out of luck when Prudential laid off his entire department and outsourced it, went back to school for his CPA to be more marketable... looked for a job for a long time, before landing PWC...

It's a rough market out there... Don't get discouraged
Somehow, though... My brother made a lot of money day trading when he was unemployed... It's crazy, Im afraid of the market

Only real way to go is to find entry level jobs like tellers or something at a bank. move into the finanacial areas when positions open up and you get a bit of experience with that company.

I read that. Also you can chose to give him the benefit of the "SPACE". A lot of people that graduate with "Accounting" casually say "Finance".

You can also chose to dont get mad at me over nothing

Who's mad?
Come to Pittsburgh... Bank of New York Mellon seems to be on a hiring spree.
I feel you, Jack. Got my medic license over a year ago, looked everywhere and could hardly get interviews, now I'm working in my stepdad's office doing menial office work (the exact thing I got into EMS to avoid doing).

I also hear about people with master's degrees and phd's who can't find anything better than a waiter job. It's a shitty, shitty economy right now, and it doesn't seem like it's gonna be turning around anytime soon.
M&T Bank is hiring in the WNY area.

But I wouldn't come here if I were you anyone.

Not trying to hijack, but man, that's one job I could not do...EMS. I don't have many fears or phobias, but I have a very strong fear of broken bones and/or teeth. I'd love to be there to help and comfort someone, perhaps save a life...it's sounds amazing. I just don't think throwing up on someone while trying to get a blood pressure reading would be helpful.

Haha broken bones are not that bad, it's the smells that are the worst (shit, infections, gangrene, etc.). It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved the hell out of that job. Too bad this economy has made it impossible for me to find work.
Sales Job or recruiting job. Look for a niche recruitment firm that specializes in Finance they will hire you in a second if you have a finance degree. Or look for a straight up sales Job.

I work for Groupon and have been since since it's beginning as the point and it seems like there's always a sales job opening up in some Market.
HOPE AND CHANGE

actuarials get paid good money to start. although, it ruins your happines in life. Also, they like to hire statisticians more than Finance people.

The actuaries I know are jolly (not fat) people. One is a hot girl. It's true that they prefer math people but finance people aren't too far off. It's worth trying.

College degrees aren't needed as much as the years go by.
The value in them is slipping all the time. & the odds of you actually ever finding work in the related degree are less every year.
Don't worry. More taxes and payback money to the Unions will certainly create more jobs. You can trust Obama!

I'm kinda curious, where did you read that?

Unemployment for Bachelors degrees: 5.4%
Unemployment for High School diploma: 10.3%

http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_chart_001.htm

Now, the part about finding work in your specific degree field might be true.

Edit: Maybe you meant the value of them is slipping because everybody has one? If you meant the value of not having one vs having one though, then I disagree.

I think you have to love (reach-around) somebody to have that happen.
Get in to the medical field.

Trust me, people do not know how to take care of themselves, the general public is retarded when it comes to this -aka- job security.

Just saying.....
