"Super Bowl XLV fans arrive at Cowboys Stadium to find no seats to watch Packers and Steelers

ARLINGTON, Tex. - Jerry Jones' dream Super Bowl turned into an even bigger nightmare Sunday when many fans showed up at Cowboys Stadium with tickets, only to find out their seats weren't ready.

Some of them may end up without a seat at all.

According to the NFL, a "limited number of sections in temporary seating areas" were not fully completed by the time the gates opened a few hours before the start of Super Bowl XLV. Fans with tickets to those seats were being held in a "Party Plaza" area while stadium workers continued construction and the NFL attempted to sort the whole mess out.

Tickets to those seats - some of which were in the upper deck behind the west end zone and some of which were built over openings near the corners of the end zones one deck below - had a face value of $900.

According to the NFL about 850 fans were located to "similar or better seats" but 400 other fans could not be relocated to a seat inside the stadium.

"These fans will each receive a refund of triple the cost of the face value of their ticket," the NFL's statement said. "The safety of fans attending the Super Bowl was paramount in making the decision and the NFL, Dallas Cowboys and City of Arlington officials are in agreement with the resolution. We regret the situation and inconvenience that it may have caused. We will conduct a full review of this matter."

The temporary seats were installed as part of a quest by Jones, the flamboyant Cowboys owner, to pack in enough people to set a new Super Bowl attendance record. The old record was 103,985 set at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for Super Bowl XIV.

It was not immediately clear why the seats weren't finished. The Cowboys last played inside the stadium on Dec. 19.

This was just the latest blow to a Super Bowl gone wrong in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It began when temperatures plunged below freezing just as the national media arrived in town and an ice storm blanketed the area early in the week. Despite forecasts warning about the storm, the region seemed to be caught completely unprepared as roads were ice-covered and nearly impassable for days.

That caused several Super Bowl-related events to be cancelled or postponed. It also caused a huge hit for downtown businesses and restaurants expecting a throng of visitors. With Dallas Fort-Worth airport closed for a time early in the week and many flights in cancelled, the twin downtown areas resembled ghost towns during Super Bowl week at times.

Then on Thursday, what was at first an inconvenience nearly turned tragic when chunks of falling ice from the roof of Cowboys Stadium injured six people. Many visitors reported ice chunks falling from buildings in downtown Dallas on Thursday and Friday, too.

The NFL attempted to get all the ice and snow off the stadium roof by game day, but as a precaution they were still forced to close four entrances to the stadium on Sunday. That caused unusually long lines outside the stadium. Some fans said it took more than two hours to get through security and into the building.

Then some of them found their seats covered with a black tarp when they arrived.

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

Jerry Jones deserves all the trouble that's come with it.
Everybody please take note that the crowd cheered heavily when they showed George W on the big screen.
Anyone else noticed the missed verse in the National Anthem? oops

I only heard a burst of noise. Some was probably cheering and some was probably a collective "Arrgghhhh!"
Anyone notice the flyover of the jets after the national anthem? well your not alone no one did, the dome was closed

ph|3.MadJester - Being Sane is No Fun
Might have been open. When I went to the bcs champ game in 06 in Arizona they roof was closed for the game but open for the flyover there.
nope it was closed

There are thousands of people watching the game from outside the stadium. So if there was a flyover at least they would have seen it.

They shoulda put a dome over the new Giants/Jets Stadium.. especially with the friggin RIDICULOUS PSL prices they have for that fucking stadium.

No idea. During the 1st quarter the camera showed a large number of people outside the stadium watching the game on a big screen. The announcers said that there were "thousands" outside. At least that's what I remember.
Nice job on the Natioal Anthem by Christina as well, skipping an entire line.....

She butchered the song, not just by messing up the lyrics. She sounded horrible.
The NFL was responsible for the installation/selling of tickets they are the ones at fault for the seats not being ready. I don't understand why they didn't have them done considering they have been prepping the stadium since right after the cotton bowl.

edit: The NFL also ordered the dome to be closed for the game and had requested the flyover, from VA, even though there is JRB in Fort Worth that does the flyover normally, or could have pulled to B1's from Abilene, which would have been way cooler.

I am a fan of hers and I was disappointed as well......she has a beautiful voice but I didn't think she used it to her full potential. Plus, she's put on some weight. What's up with that? She still isn't fat, but wow can you notice it.

lololol
Can you imagine paying $200 bucks to stand OUTSIDE of Dallas Stadium to watch the Superbowl on a big screen tv??????

Wonder how many people paid for that privilege? Next year they can charge $100 for people who can't come to the game to be able to watch at movie theaters across the country. If you are going to sell something completely stupid at over inflated prices, why not?

For $200 bucks you could go to a bar with big screen tvs, get food and booze, and probably have $100 to $150 left over.

I am blown away that anyone would pay $200 to stand outside and event and watch on big screens when a very similar option is available for free at home, bar, friends, etc...

The UFC has done something similar, but the price was less than half of what a PPV cost.

It does sound crazy but there are reasons why people might opt to do that. Some might be locals who think it would be cool to be on-site. Some might have come for the festivities surrounding the game and decided that this might be worth it. Others might be people who didn't have tickets but had a fool's hope of buying from a scalper.

They sold 800 of them and you had to buy them in groups of four (3200 tickets total). The first people that were able to buy them were Cowboys Season Ticker holders, if there was any left than it went on sale to the general public (sold out to Season ticket holders). The west party plaza is actually nice, but I would not pay 200 to be out there!
Hell... one of my neighbors hosted a Superbowl party.
Had a good time, they threw all the kids in the basement, kids had a good time.

We actually left after the 3rd quarter, school night you know. Got a call after the game, I had won some money in the pool. Walked back to the house, and started doing shots of Patron... then ended up killing a few bottles of wine with a few of the neighbors that were left.

Found out a lot of gossip around the neighborhood, who knew?
Who's an alcoholic and when they're staging an intervention, how much this family is spending on their remodeling, who's getting a divorce, etc...

I didn't think my neighbors were into each other's shit like that.... apparently, they are!

Oh you know in Macks neighborhood, you definitely don't want to be the first one to leave! Everyone will be talking about your shit.
Let me tell you... when the alcohol starts loosening those inhibitions, the real dirt starts coming out. I've been in the neighborhood 15 years, and I will go to the parties, but I never hung around to really get to know people, because I'm always at work.

I was genuinely surprised at the intervention they're staging for the one neighbor. First of all, I'm surprised they're doing an intervention, but apparently it needs to get done.
The direct quote was "At first, she was only like that at parties, but now it's 7 days a week. If it were 7 NIGHTS a week that's one thing, but she's like that during the DAY! She's putting her kids and everyone's kids at risk!"

Of course, then I find out she's bipolar (Ahhh.. no wonder!) and it clicked. So I told them people who suffer from manic-depressive disorder have a higher risk of alcoholism and drug abuse and stuff... So that clicked with them, too!

Watched the game at the neighbors of a family friend's house. Guy had a really sweet setup in the basement, HD projector on a gigantic screen with 4 huge leather recliners and nice lighting.

Had his girlfriend over (I think they;'re both closing in on 40's, maybe mid 30's, but hes big into the internet dating/fucking thing lately), and she brought her daughter..... holy shit hottest jailbait I've ever seen, everybody thought she was 22-25, turns out she was 16. Wtf are they putting in the water?

First off the Superbowl is available for FREE at home, and the UFC (except for pre-lims) is not.

Price of the UFC at movie theatres is $15 vs $49.99 on PPV. Either way you are watching on a screen. The arena seating for the UFC goes from $200 to $900.

Now, with those options, would you pay $100 to stand OUTSIDE of a UFC event and watch on a screen??????? $200 to stand OUTSIDE the Superbowl or $200 to watch the UFC from the inside.

Actually, the cheap seats for the upcoming Seattle Fight Night are $50.
