What a kick by Silva... I expected more from Vitor, but Silva caught him quick.

Looks like Silva/GSP matchup will happen... if Silva wins there, he might as well retire as P4P GOAT.
Jon Bones Jones vs Ryan Bader

Won't spoil it, you will be in awe.
Belfort vs Silva

I didn't catch the post-fight presser, but I guess Dana said they're gonna try for an event in Japan this year. Lot of expansion with Brazil and now Japan.

Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Forrest Griffin vs Rich Franklin

http://mmafightvideosonline.blogspot.com/2011/02/forrest-griffin-vs-rich-franklin-fight.html

The shocking part of this fight was when Anderson Silva jumped in and fought both of them at the same time and won via double front kick.
Silva's accuracy is just nuts. That kick is pretty much just a jab used to keep distance and maybe score points, but I've never, ever seen anyone get knocked out with it. GSP will have his work cut out for him.

Jones is like a man among boys. Bader is not a small light-heavyweight and Jones just dwarfed him. Rua's a very dangerous man though and Jones won't get away with some of his wild striking against him. Jones wrestling advantage could prove pretty significant though.

I was a bit disappointed in the crowd for booing Torres. He was picking apart Banuealos, but Banuealos wasn't doing anything to close the distance or force the fight. Torres would have had to recklessly rush forward if he wanted to finish but why should he have to do that if his opponent wasn't willing? Torres put on a technical display and he shouldn't be booed for dominating a fight.

ramon dekkers made that kick famous a long time ago
I just can't get excited about Silva, he's too much of a douche. Rich needs to change his game or he'll be irrelevant soon. I can't wait to watch the rest of the fights.
I will say the prelims on spike were excellent. Cerrone was really impressive...particularly after getting sucker punched at the beginning. Totally lame. I know kelly said "i was just going to work right away", but thats bullshit. Im glad he lost just for that reason.

Mendes is going to be a force as a 45. He hits so hard and so quick. You could see alot of Fabers influence on his style.

I go on-and-off between that sentiment...

That was part of the pre-fight smack talk by Belfort. Said Silva wears a mask in public to be the hated guy, but is a good person in his heart (hence the mask at the weighins).

Silva said that fucking Steven Segal showed and trained him that kick.

Wow, I m disappointed that was the kick that won it all! Fairy.

That's all the more reason to be impressed by it. It's hard to generate any kind of power with accuracy when throwing that kick that high. Usually that kick is thrown lower as kind of a jab to the stomach or a pushing kick to create distance. Silva used it to knock someone out. And he used excellent technique to do so. He looked down like he was just going to aim at Belfort's stomach then he snapped it up and nailed Vitor right on the chin.

I've trained with that kick before and most people can't get it up that high. I can but I have like zero power when I do so, it's basically just like a light jab if I get it up that high. Of course I really can't hit anything when I'm aiming that high. What Silva did with it is frankly rather amazing.

I know you're not a fan of his, but it's undeniable that he's arguably the finest martial artist on the planet. Only GSP is in his league. I really can't wait until GSP destroys Jake Shields and then we can see the best fight possible in MMA.
An, I don't think he intended it that way, but it doesn't matter. In the end, he won. I give him props for his skill, but he's still a douche.

I don't think GSP will beat him, he's too small to over come the skill level.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you Major. Silva may not have anticipated that kick would result in a knockout, but he clearly threw it with bad intentions at Belfort's chin.

I tend to concur with GSP just being too small to deal with Silva. He's just going to have some serious problems overcoming Silva's reach. And if he gets tagged coming in on Silva that could be it. But GSP is probably the smartest fighter in MMA. He'll have a game plan that will give him a chance.
I don't know why you think Silva is a douche. All the post fight comments he's made, and those pre fight, I've seen him as nothing but a class act compared to most.

I've had nothing but a good impression that he's mostly humble, just like GSP is. Does he showboat in the ring? Yea, but so the fuck what. He's entertaining for me to watch.

It's his antics in the ring, he is arrogant and disinterested at times. Plus, he said his game plan was to get his assed kicked(play defense) for four rounds against Chael(another douche) Sonnen, and then go on the offensive in the fifth. WHAT?!

Meh, whatever. The guy has the personality of a rock. I just can't get excited about him whatsoever.

I don't think it was, he did touch gloves, but you can tell from the get go he had a serious intensity about him and he wanted to come out aggressive and get in Cerrone's face. I don't think he just got to amped up.

Yeh, I remember seeing vids of machida and segal a few months back. Now, silva said he's used that kick a lot, but Segal helped him perfect it. Segal was with him in the locker room apparently and they were practicing and perfecting it in there. Fucking nuts.

Overall, the night of fights was good. Bones is a badass and I'm got goosebumps about his fight with Shogun. Silva is the baddest man on the planet. Franklin needs to improve some things. Torres looked sharp, but needs to add a little more of his aggression back, but Banuelos didn't do shit. disappointed with "Kid" big time, but impressed with Mighty Mouse. Chad Mendes is a beast. The best in Japan seem to be mediocre in the U.S. Aoki, Omigawa, Kid and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, but all these badass Japanese fighters come over and get dominated.

I would love to see the UFC in Japan. That was a big part of the selling part of the company to the Arab guy.

With that logic, then you must have hated Ali with a passion.

Personally, that's what I LOVE about Silva. He does shit in the octagon that I haven't seen anyone else do. The fight where he grabbed the dude's kick and punched him in the face is one, and the other was the Forrest Griffin fight where he dodged like 6 punches with head movement, and then knocked him the fuck out is another.

And this last fight? A knockout front snap kick? Who else has done that? And after his quick celebration, he went out and made sure his opponent was ok, and gave him props in his post fight interview.

I'd rather see 50 Silva's then 1 more Diaz brother or Kosecheck in the sport.

Silva's kick was impressive. I don't think he thought it would ko or knock down Belfort, but he did aim right for the face and did it with force. Belfort had to see that kick and must have thought it would be a body kick he could catch or absorb. Never saw a KO via front kick.

Jon Bones Jones is amazing. Bader is a wrestler and pretty strong and Jones threw him around. I think the Jones title fight will be great, but I think he should have had to beat a top contender first. Make him fight Lyoto, Rampage, Nogeura or Thiago Silva. I think Thiago will be a force now that he has recovered from his long time injury. If Jones does win I would love to see a catch weight match against Anderson Silva more than a GSP/Silva match.

Franklin vs Griffin - seemed like Franklin was just too small for Griffin. Franklin also seemed to use the arm he broke against Liddel very little, almost like it still hurt or got re-injured. That fight helped Griffin step back into the spot light and pushed Rich a step closer to retirement.

Haven't finished watching the other fights yet. Not as excited about UFC 127 as I was about these fights.

I like silva a lot, but against Jitsu aces, he's boring.

And I see your Irvin and forrest knockouts and raise you an elbow knockout.

I disagree, he worked hard at that and Segal had him change it up. Vitor wasn't come at him and he didn't follow up immediately in a flurry. It was an offensive move, not defensive. If Vitor was flying in and he did it, defensive argument is there, but they were right in front of each other and through the kick right to the face in an offensive way. It was meant for hurt.

I loved Ali!

I don't ever recall him being a boring ass fighter, "depending" on his competition. I'm not in this boat alone, there a lot of people who don't like his fighting style and think he's a douche. Joe even mentioned it during his fight with Vitor, he's just not that popular(as he could be). The guy has great skill, I just don't find him to be very likeable.

Here Andural, I fixed your linkage...

And yes, that is one of the most amazing knock-outs of all time.

I am not saying it was defensive, I am saying I don't think that he knew that was a knockout kick. Belfort is a tough guy with a hard chin. I think he knew it would rock him, just not KO him.

Boring? Are you serious?

And watching this will show you he's respectful to the other fighters:

I just don't see how you think somebody that respects their opponent both in and out of the octagon can be a douche. If you don't like him as a fighter, just say so. But don't call the man a douchebag.

You clearly haven't seen all his fights, sometimes, he just doesn't fight or his head isn't in it. I didn't say he doesn't have a spectacular highlight reel.

My nuts are already taken care of, now get off them.

I think he knew it could, based on Segal. But you never know anything you through will. Cro-Cop caught Hunt flush with the head kick and knocked him down, but got right back up. You just never truly know it will.

Back in the day nothing short of a semi travelling at 70mph would knock Mark Hunt out.

That's true, but until that point, no one woke up knowing what city they were in if it landed. No stumbles, no dazed, they were knocked the fuck out. I'm sure that CC KNEW that if he landed that kick, hunt would be out, but it didn't happen.

Especially in a forum post where you can't tell tone, facial gestures or body language.
True, in the history of man no person has been able to adequately portray emotion in the written word without emoticons. Shakespear, Walt Whitman, Chaucer..... even Stephen King or Tom Clancy. Writing is without the ability to convey emotion.... or sarcasm.

And all this is important in a UFC post because??????
