Back to Battlefield 3 Ladder

So, I have been reading all the flack TWL has been catching. I see all the locked topics and the "well if you don't want to play then leave" bullshit being spread around. As an Ex Twl admin and avid BF series player I must say one thing.

Twl is really a joke. Now, before you hand me a fourm ban hear me out.

The BF Staff at the moment is a joke. The way issues are handled, are a joke. The "we are here for fun" excuse is a joke. I made a team for "fun" on the 4v4 and 6v6. After our first 3 or 4 lamas which took anywhere from 60 hours to the longest being 120 hours to process. The ladders are FULL of inactive teams.

There is a reason only terrible teams takes TWL serious.

TWL is headed downhill and fast. Unless something is done to change it TWL will always be a joke in the competitive scene.

I am making this post in hope that the reaction from the admins is different from normal. Rather that you realize that if changes are not made this place will die.

Don't forget to hit that follow button and chug a bottle of aspirin.
It's volunteer run, don't expect too much. As long as they aren't getting anything in return, the admins have no reason to give two shits about the state of the ladders and such. They're all fifty times more worried about flame wars on the forums (which is half the fun IMO) than having functioning ladders and leagues. But hey. Broken game, broken competition.

Never said it was high on the hill to begin with. Been moving downhill for quite a few years, however recently. It has gotten much worse.

Well, I went back through all your forfeit 48hr wins in your match history, and not one got anywhere close to 120 hrs. Most were within 50-58, considering the 48hr flag dropped after midnight a few times. Sorry, but I don't think any admin would be so concerned with making sure your forfeits were processed that they would stay up all night just to check.

Your 6v6 ladder 48hr processes were:

48:01
49:31
58:37 (Flagged 48 at 11:00 Saturday night, I didn't process until I got home from church that Sunday morning.)
You won your first match played 2-0.
You lost your next match, filed a dispute because "They shot you with guns and took your flags" then rage quit the ladder and changed your team name.

Your 4v4SR ladder 48hr processes started on the 31st of march with a forfeit win which I don't have due to a monthly purge, nor the match that fell under Easter Amnesty. If you are counting that one as "over 120 hours" to make your point, then yes, we didn't process 4/5-4/10 so I would bet it's much more than 120. Either of those matches Chowder or Six could pull from the archives and get exact hours as well.

Your 3rd and only other 48hr win went 57:21. It flagged after midnight, I didn't process until I got home from church.

If you would like copies of all the time stamped match comms for these matches, please send me an email at greeneyed@teamwarfare.com.

I am sooooo sorry for not jumping up to check your matches every time they flagged. I will send you my personal cell phone and home phone, and give you my wife's cell phone just in case I'm in the shower when you call because your match hit 48hrs. We all know how serious your are about it.

TWL BF community went down hill because Battlefield went down hill. Long gone are the 1942 and DC days with strong competition because the game itself has the inability for that competition to thrive.

I would say it's 95% EA/DICE's fault, and just 5% on the admins here. But I can't really blame them, most TWL players act like entitled fags and get their panties in a bunch over little dumb shit.
I'm not sure how much serious thought you'll give this post, if any at all, but here we go anyways.

If you were to ask me what I'd do if I were running TWL and had free reign over any decision making... I would start scouring the net for experienced admins, make an age limit, say 25, and make sure they sound, act, and come across intelligently. They also would be required to own the game, play the game, and be decent at the game. This is not the case now.

There would be oversight discussions on how things are being done, free reign given to remove people from positions regardless of seniority based on performance, and, most importantly, admins would be held accountable for failures, errors, and overall success of leagues and ladders.

We would hand out rating survey's... ask for feedback... have Team Leaders rate admins on different things like, but not limited to, Professionalism, Familiarity with the game they are administering, fairness, attention to detail, pro-activeness, availability, etc. Give the Team Leaders a gripe box OUTSIDE the forums that they can't get banned for.

As a team leader, if there was a gripe box of sorts, that I knew was manned, got a response that someone was looking into a certain situation, and then communicated with about the issue or problem that we were having with an admin or a process... then we would feel like there is a level of attention there that I haven't seen in TWL in years. You say forums... I say the TWL forums are pretty much a waste of time.

On the other hand you also have an AC team that, in my experience, has WAY below the acceptable level of knowledge of Punkbuster, UAC3, PB Streaming, Server setup, investigation techniques, and other AC utilities and tools.

There just seems to be a huge difference in what TWL Admins did 5 years ago... to what we have now. Huge doesn't even describe it.

It seems like a club of friends... and that's about it. I don't think Knowledge, Skill, and Experience have as much to do with the admin recruiting process as how well they know the person applying for a position. It's broken.

Apologies for the length, and I hope you take these concerns from a TWL fan, member and ex-admin seriously.

In no way am I writing this as a bitter team leader who thinks he got shafted for any reason... We dropped TWL in favor of another league for 4v4 because it's night and day when you compare the two leagues' organizational skills, processes, scoring systems, websites, admin availability, and leadership expertise.

This is just an observational summation of how I think your league is being ran and how you can improve it.

Don't break it down and attack each point... just read it and understand that we want TWL to succeed and this is just a score card from a user who has been around TWL for over a decade playing games... and no longer enjoys TWL competition.

You should take these posts seriously. There is a reason that there are so many of them and so many people leaving.

Thanks.
when I first started with TWL I thought it was great.. but after experiencing alternative leagues I realized how dismal TWL is.

Other leagues listen very closely to the competitive community, and take their suggestions very seriously.

Their admins are ACTIVE players in GOOD teams who put alot of effort into it. they work as hard as they can, and try to make it the best they possibly can.

oh and they are extremely organized...

That is what TWL should try to do... because right now this organization is severely lacking in all those areas...

Only problem with your grocery store list of professional level requirements, lack of compensation. That list you just named is grossly unrealistic if you don't provide some form of payment for the service rendered. Who particularly cares about being an admin? So busy dealing with turds you can't even play the games them selves.

You pay these guys, then you can start asking for this professional level of talent and attention.

I agree with this.

To people who say you can't get seriousness and professionalism without pay, I respectfully disagree.

Pretty much sums up how serious I take TWL. Btdubs, the name change came BEFORE the rage quit.

Either way, I was not aware that sharing my teams match dispute in the public forums is allowed. Although, pretty funny fucking dispute. Almost as funny as the excuses.

I would have to agree with word on this one...
I was on staff from 2005 to the end of 2011 and I can tell you it was damn near impossible to get anyone to apply to be an admin.

We always fell short of what we wanted/expected.

About 1/2 the admins we did hire would go AWOL within a few months when they realized it took more time and dedication than they had originally anticipated.

People simply aren't willing to give up their free time to help out when they get nothing out of it except complaints, gripes, and threatening e-mails.
I was a TWL admin for a long time in the BF series and a Comp manager and in line for Senior Operations until Hurricane Katrina almost wiped out my existence on this planet.

The number one thing you need to ask yourself. Is any institution on God's green earth perfect? No it is not.

I am sure things go wrong at Burger King now and then and really throw you for a loop

The number two thing you need to ask yourself is, how much to you pay to play here?...let me guess nothing right?

Playing here in competiton is a privledge and not a God given right.

Sure the ladder have inactive teams and this is just part of the norm that happens in competition so deal with it instead of drawing attention to yourself by your posts. Be part of the solution my young gamer and not the whiner.

In addition I am sure your post will spark some focus on things that need attention. However why not just ask for this instead of making a melodramtic post to put the attention on you like "look what I posted at TWL" and slamming the process instead of an objective, constructive post on the issues at hand for a proactive solution.

The admins here do a fine job and frankly as you stated, if you can't ask for things in a civil and objective manner. Don't let the browser hit you in the a$$ on the way out.

I think Word2yall means is why should he waste his time when the lack of attention TWL gives the players is giving him the notion he would be wasting his time. He isn't saying TWL sucks ass, he is saying it's on it's way going downhill and that is his objective, constructive notion and I believe that is the purpose of his post.

As for objective, constructive information I want to say this. This is what I think of TWL and you can make sense of it and use that sense as a notion for making better things for TWL. TWL doesn't charge anything for it's service and I appreciate that a lot in more ways than 1. That is why I return here even though I can't stand some things here, mainly the crap talking. But if anybody is going to open a website for public gaming competition and give people the notion it's purpose is to create a competition website and moderate it then it should be exactly that. Anything different will probably not seem acceptable since we gamers are here to compete. Not being perfect is 1 thing but when too many problems occur and too many complaints happen and nothing is done about it then players and their teams leave and it ruins it for everybody else. I started here as a late comer to BF2 competition and I seen many BF2 gamers at 1 time trying to keep up the BF2 competition alive an thriving. I had everybody waiting for a BF2 1v1 tank rung ladder that never happened and that is just 1 of the complaints I hear from time to time. I make another post hopefully to make a serious discussion about a BF3 armor ladder without the crap talk and my post is deleted. That is what I get for trying to make an objective, constructive notion for BF3 competition. So basicly what I'm saying is, when you make a public gaming competition website you need to design it well (the design is ok but.....) and you need to stay on top of the websites priorities in order to keep everybody satisfied and everything all good.

If it had been a valid dispute, I never would have posted it. It was just one more point to put out there.

Out of the entire response, that's all you take away from it. Not that they were BS complaints from a troll to begin with, but *gasp* I posted he trolled a dispute as well. That someone had to take the time to admin. Not that his time frames were way off, but that I made "excuses" as to why 2 of them went over 48. That skewed view that some have is part of the problem. There is no acceptance of reality.

It's hard to listen to the community over the screaming of the "Look at ME!" 2 year-olds that constantly have to run their pie-holes. Someone wants to request something, the trolls step in with their spew, thread gets locked. Does it matter that they don't like the request, but others in the community might? Nope. Gotta show the community how hip they are by not liking it before you.

The problem is the admins?

Then don't lock the thread, simple. Nobody really cares if it turns into a flame war, because if it doesn't happen here it'll just happen somewhere else. Allowing useful threads to be closed due to a rule that doesn't really matter is pretty ridiculous.
InVision - I try to let threads go as long as possible and keep the trolling to a minimum.

Laser - We are working a new ladders, I am unsure at the moment if it will be 1v1 or 2v2. I prefer team based ladders myself but we are nailing down the rules now.

Everyone needs to chill. Go back up and read GreenEyed's first post. It shows how on top of the ladders we are with activity and forfeits.

P.S. Can I please get a link to find my PB GUID for BF3?

My personal thoughts, TWL has a good thing going here, but sometimes they fail to recognize that. Greeneyed was always on the ball when we had an issue, however, there are others who don't go that route. Sad thing is, it's not about the game anymore, it's about who can say the "coolest" thing after you've made a comment or complaint. "Cool Story" or "you mad bro?" C'mon, if you guys want to talk shit in a forum and try to be all badass make one for that, you're comments don't impress solid people.
Anyway, 9 times out of 10, any constructive criticism here is met with sharp, smartassed tongues as if they come from some powerful wizard behind the curtain. We all know who that fella turned out to be. This forum is about the people who play here and a LOT of them have made good complaints and have been met with a "My way or the highway" attitude. If your having a serious discussion and getting some things accomplished and some asshole chimes in with smartassed comments , ban the fool and let's move on. Make a forum for the shit talkers and let them juke it out there but keep some serious TWL forums where serious gamers can communicate. For the most part, I think TWL is pretty cool.
I blame the community, not the admins @ twl. It's pretty simple. Dice doesn't care about either the competitive community or PC gamers, because we make up only a tiny fraction of their customer base. We then go around bitching about every little thing we dislike and calling the devs flaming pieces of shit because they are focused on taking care of the 99% of people who buy the game just to play instead of bowing down to the nuances to gods gift to gaming, otherwise known as ourselves.

You people need to get real. I'm not saying that they don't, because I've never had anything other than great experiences over here at twl, but let's just say for a moment that you aren't being admin'd by the pinnacle of perfection for a moment. We and by we I mean the competitive battlefield community are to blame for all of our woes.

This whole thing reminds me of an experience I had recently in grocery store. This nasty bitch was at the front counter bitching and raising hell that her EBT (food stamps) wouldn't buy beer. She had the nerve to bitch and complain about about a small and specific complaint regarding something she didn't earn, pay for, or invest in.

Several of you HERE, look just as ridiculous. You put nothing in, but you have the nerve to complain. You bicker, troll, quit after a few losses, don't show up to matches, then have the NERVE to complain.

How about this... Step up to the plate if you think you can do a better job. Man the fuck up and be part of the solution, no the problem. The only JOKE I see here, the only PROBLEM we have, is the community itself.

TWL is severely outdated...
If all fails to make a solution among the differences of TWL Admins and the public my objective, constructive notion is to put TWL on a automated engine admin system. As game servers have an auto admin system to kick or ban anything not acceptable so is any website structure capable to kick ban or apply anything appropriate for any situation necessary. This would make everybody equal and no favors to bend or brake the rules in or behind the scenes. It could give the TWL admins nothing else to do but monitor the automated engine admin system for glitches or errors and give TWL admins more time to personally look into matters given to them in IRC or email. Maybe this will get TWL admins more involved in the gaming if they had time to play at all or more than admin stuff. Playing the game is a part of understanding the game and the players expectations here at TWL or in general pc/video gaming.

Well said. Agree 100%

They've assembled a pretty nice laundry list of things TWL is doing wrong, or should be doing. I could have sworn I have seen plenty "admins wanted" threads kicking up around here. How about the whiners in here step up and help out, instead of chastising the people who are volunteering to make this a place they can play.

These kids will learn some day -- probably around the time they have kids of their own and realize oh yeah wait...volunteering is a thankless and can be as full time as any regular job.

I always say to other people who like to complain about how I run certain things... "Well you're welcome to take over if you think things aren't going so well". That usually shuts them up pretty quick.

So community, STFU and be part of the solution not the problem. You have some great ideas? Apply to become an admin so you can make them happen.

As someone said above this is an old site. Been the same site forever SO we can't add in all this automation you want. Plus there are errors that can occur with automation for no reason. As we showed earlier we handle 48 hour forfeits quite quickly.

Guys, if you are specific about a change other than we suck please talk with me about it. We do the best we can with what we are given.

Right. It's all the communities fault.
Jack I do not agree with that at all. It is a two way street. In no way am I saying TWL is not the issue.

But keeping communication open is a key part of the system.

Seeing as how admins are from [and members of] the community and not just employees hired by TWL, yes.

Actually it is. It's not TWL's fault that the community doesn't support it.
@SixShotSean I will be very straightforward with you.
Review your AC team, they are the cancer of this league.

Not to mention you're not on a team that competes here. STFU? Yes.

I used to compete in TWL untill a couple of months ago. But we quitted after realizing the joke TWL had become into.
My TWL match record is 48/9 and placed 1st on every ladder we used to compete in here.
Now I'm a member of a more important team and they don't take TWL seriously either.

So dont be a smartass and tell me to stfu, or that I don't compete inside TWL. I care 10 more about this league than a retarded douchebag kid like you ever will.
Knock it off. This thread is about over.

I am online all the time and open for discussion.
