Rules Clarified!

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2012-03-08 · 32 posts
Can I please have the rules clarified? I have so many teams saying I'm stupid and I have the wrong config on my server and I'm not playing by TWL rules...........

No Tactical Flashlights on PRIMARY WEAPONS, SECONDARY WEAPON Tac. Lights are allowed.

Placing C4 and claymores ON THE BOMB or ANYWHERE ON THE ENTIRE MAP weather its close proximity, on the bomb, or on a flight of stairs is LEGAL.

There are NO CLASS RESTRICTIONS - Meaning I can run 4 ASSAULTS.

ALL UNLOCKS are used. No special ironsights only, no special level 1 weps only, ANY GUN, any SCOPES, any ATTACHMENTS are LEGAL (Except the shotgun frag rounds, IR Scope, and Tac. Lights on primary weps).

I'm making this thread because people are stupid out there and don't actually know the rules. I want something to reference them to so they can see they are stupid.
Don't tell me....

Former COD player?
Yep, those are the rules...
those are the rules for twl, but there are other leagues out there with other rule sets...
You need to preface the scrims by announcing you would like to play by the TWL ruleset.

PSG has it right with 1 assault, no claymores, no mortars, no MAV, and no frag rounds, IRNV, or tac on primaries.

TWL has it wrong with MAV, Claymores, Mortars, no class limits, and unlimited m320's.

If you play a team in any other tournament or league they will chastise you... if you play a TWL team then you're good.

No never played COD.

I'm talking TWL rules only, not talking about other leagues/ladders.

I always say at the start, "TWL rules"
MAV- Sounds like an industrial leaf blower. Takes about 6-8 rounds to kill and using it leaves you with 1 less player with a gun.

Clays - Only really useful on defense with a maximum of 2 per support. With the flac-vest squad perk option they are not a one shot kill. They disappear if you kill the support player and can be countered by crouching past them.

Tac lights on secondary - Secondary weapons are only really useful indoors at close range. If you cant kill a semi auto pistol shooter at point blank with a full auto weapon because of a light then I think you have greater issues than a pistol with a light on it.

Mortars - Can be countered by a friendly mortar almost instantly. Hear a mortar? Drop yours fire one round at the enemy mortar pick up yours and move on. Moving and using suppressors also make mortaring extremely inefficient for the enemy.

Just sounds to me that a lot of players want to simplify the game down to its core point and click shooter gameplay. This is not COD there is way more going on, way more depth, adapt your tactics rather than petition everything to be banned.

Tac's on primary's was over powered on some maps. I get why they were banned.
Frag rounds are just crazy OP I'm not even sure why dice thought that was a good idea. I don't think you will find anyone that would want them in competitive play. IRNV was fine in beta when it had a maximum range but the current infinite range predator vision super wide angle god scope is a little much.

TWL has done a good job of banning obviously OP stuff while leaving tactical / situational weaponry and kits alone.

Pussy Shitty Gaming. yeah, i said it.
Can you explain to us xshades why all other tournaments and leagues have banned those things and TWL is the only one allowing them?

Same shades from blops hc... wish you woulda picked another game.

Maybe trying to not be like everybody else?
Please explain why these things are OP and need removing. Just saying remove them without giving a reason doesn't really help.

I have no idea why the banned them on the other sites you mention but my guess is that a lot of COD-BO players joined those sites and are trying to reproduce the COD style simplified game-play with BF3 maps.
Some of you need someone to break out the crayons for you clearly. We NEED the game as STOCK as possible. The only items that should not be allowed are those that break the game. Not just shit you don't like, but things that actually ruin competition.

I don't LIKE claymores, but they in no way break the game.
I don't LIKE mortars, but they don't break the game.

INRV breaks the game.
Flashlights, break the game.

TWL up and down the board has done a GREAT job of running the current leages and tournaments for us. The rule set is what the community as a WHOLE has agreed on. Will there be a few dissenting parties? Absolutely, but the current rules set is common sense.

Translation:

He DOESN'T like IRNV or Flashlights.
He DOES like claymores and mortars.

You say to only ban things that break the game...

So who is it that decides what the definition of 'break the game' means?

Apparently it's you. The problem is... I didn't vote you into the 'Who-Decides-What-Broken-Means' office.

Do you see how your opinion weighs just as much as everyone else's? I don't think you do. You're just 1 person. You don't have more BF authority than anyone else does.

This is why TWL USUALLY votes for these things... and instead of voting... they just had someone decide for us.

The problem is the person probably plays more 8v8 or 12v12, doesn't scrim 4v4 sqr as much as those in irc every night, if at all, and THINKS he has his thumb on the pulse of the community.

You're just one guy... I'm just one guy.

Take a vote... whatever that turns the rules into then we can't argue it because that's what the community wants.

4v4 sqr isn't 8v8 or 12v12 and people seem to think they are similar enough that just removing SL spawn is good enough.

The vote system is flawed as well since sometimes they only have clan leaders voting... which means they vote how they want to and not necessarily how their clan wants it.

Make it a public vote open to everyone... then we can see what everyone wants and doesn't want.

So the possibility that the other leagues might be using a setup that the community wants instead of admins making the decisions for us never crossed your mind?

lol.

I love it... I want mortars and claymores so everything else is wrong and COD'ish!

Make a vote... once a vote is called and we get a true representation of what the community wants in and out of 4v4 then we can move on in peace and harmony...
MAV- Sounds like an industrial leaf blower. Takes about 6-8 rounds to kill and using it leaves you with 1 less player with a gun.

did they patch this or can you still ride on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2ipsuvOmeI
You still have not explained whats wrong with clays and Mortars.

Frag rounds are flat out broken on CQ maps. No one would argue otherwise.

Primary weapon Flashlight means everyone would have to roll with them on CQ maps and I think people would rather shoot at people rather than mini suns.

IRNV scopes remove concealment as a tactic from the game. Sneaking and moving with concealment has always been part of BF games so having one attachment that makes it impossible was never going to fly.

There you go.

Now your turn for Mortars and Clays.
Mortars - gay. broken. no skill. broken. blind spam on an objective your defending without regard to any kind of strat or tactic. broken. you say it's easy to kill a mortar player... what's to stop them from just getting up and moving 10 feet and then doing it again over and over and over? How is that a fun tactic and adding to the skill side of the game? Broken.

Claymores - Always been lame in any game that's ever attempted to allow them. No skill. Broken.

These, just like your explanations for MAV and IRNV, are OPINIONS ONLY.

Your explanation is great and fantastic... just admit it's an opinion and that everyone might not agree with you.

Vote... only way to find out what everyone wants.

Listening to what xShades thinks is the way to play the game is not the way to go about building a config/ruleset.

Can you at least agree that a vote for the public would be the best way to go about building this config for 4v4 sqr?
Sorry, Jack. But I fail to see even an ounce of logic in your argument. Apparently, Mortars like men and thus don't take any skill. There's a really neat trick you'll be able to do when playing 4v4 SR. SHOOT THE CLAYMORE. If you've gotten far enough to the bomb site and you actually made a decent pick or wipe, you should be able to plant successfully w/o having to worry about a claymore or mortar. All I see is somebody who's getting annihiliated by teams that have either used mortars or claymores, not a good enough reason to ban them from the game.
Mortars will be changed on the next patch from what i read today to 4.8 second reload and longer time in flight.
do you idiots actually think that these things are just arbitrarily banned on one guys opinion? Really? wake the fuck up.

Two things always happen when things are banned. First, they go around to a bunch of team captains and literally ask them if there is anything that is negatively effecting the game. Probably not yours because I automatically know your team blows if you're talking about mortars and claymores. Mortars? Seriously? I can't beleive that's even being brought up.

Secondly, there have been numerous post where the community has discussed the items that they do and do NOT want removed. Overwhelmingly the community has wanted flashlights and INRV removed. Noone gives a shit about claymores and mortars because noone in their right mind would play support in a match.
"blind spam on an objective your defending without regard to any kind of strat or tactic"

Ok so you think that 2 guys firing mortars constantly at a OBJ to defend it is OP.

Can you not just go and kill the Mortar guy? He's on the map as a red icon. Can you not just throw down your own mortar guy and counter mortar them?

You see the issue? There are counters to the stuff you want banned. IRNV has no real counter you would be stupid not to use it, in fact everyone would use it if it was not banned. If everyone is forced to use something its a good sign its OP.

Saying something is "Gay" is not going to get it banned.
just let it go Shades, the guys on 7 cod teams and 0 bf teams and you can't figure him out? let it go.
lol What team would ever sacrifice a player in 4v4 to run a MAV/Mortar/Clay spammer? You're doing it wrong.

Because we try to only pull gear that is truly OP or the community is loudly asking for a change in the rules.

Everyone has a vote and many complained about the IRNV and Tac light. And the tac light can blind someone from across the map. OP much...

Sorry Jack, not trying to pick you out from the crowd, but not understanding the negativity.

New game and TWL has actively listened to Ladder, League, and leadership forums. Many folks have volunteered their time away from gaming and real life to make the best gaming community possible. We do not just make decisions from the leader's feedback. However, the leadership forum is supposed to have the clan founders/captains participating to voice the opinion of their CLAN. There was alot of complaints with the IRNV, Frag Rounds, Tac Light. Even EA agreed the tac light is OP and was supposed to nerf in the last patch.

According to the next patch.
Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.
Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.

TWL will re-review the weapons after the patch and see if they can be returned back to gameplay.

There are very few threads on mortars and claymores. Just those asking if it is allowed or not. And TWL has tried to stop the "blind spamming" by creating the no deploying mortars in the spawn area.

Lastly, we are currently discussing class limits.

This thread was asking if the gear was allowed. And was answered. If you wish to start another thread to have everyone post their opinions on a piece of gear please do so. However, I am not seeing a unanimous vote in these two pages of removed mortals/clays or keeping them.

Moving on...

Leadership thread opened already.

Thanks.
I was just making a point with my explanations that everyone's reasons are basically opinions... and a vote would be a good thing to see for these things.

Leadership forum has a vote thread already opened for it.

That's all I wanted... and like I said whatever the community wants is what we'll get and be happy to play it.

Sorry to ruffle feathers.

bc2 4v4 sqr

and... yes too many COD games... they are certainly stale and mw3 looks like someone took a dump on a few 1's and zeros and sold it to people... horrible game.

i'm just not a claymore/mortar fan.

I think it adds to the game to try and get that sniper hiding on that roof over there without just dropping a mortar on his head...

Thanks and we will see you guys in scrims and matches.
My guys scrimmed you tonight. They have a little more practicing to do but enjoyed themselves.

No feathers ruffled. Lets make decisions and vote instead of just flaming someone's elses opinion. (no fingers pointed)

Jack and I are on the same team and we played BC2 sr 4v4 league and ladders. We are not on the BF3 one's yet because before we join we want to know the final rule set before we committ.

I also dont want IRNV,Tack Lights, MAV.
Mortars are lame and I know we wont be using it for it takes a body out of play and a gun.

Claymores I guess they are not as big a deal because they can be avoided either crouching around them if you see them in time. Besides they are not as powerful as the claymores in the COD series games.

As for the classes I guess if its unlimited and we play TWL this season we will have to join everyone in running with 4 assualt and 4 M320's. Its lame but you end up left with no choice but to join in the lameness.
Imo take squad becons out and you'd see half the teams that were decent suck now. Personally I think we need to make the squad system like it was in bf2. Get the dumbass shit where you can spawn on anyone out here and make someone dedicate to being a squad leader again. That's what made a lot of teams great back in the day cause it takes so much more skill than just having kids run any because they have a dumbass squad becon somewhere. plus we have novarock so we are set..
