Matt could u STOP POSTING USELESS FLAMATORY SHIT
lol, thanks daleon, you beat me to it. Matt, I have windows, windows sucks, I want rid of windows, which is why I asked if it worked with linux.
ps - windows sucks compared to linux IMO.
do me a favor and write a CDC port for windows aight....shweet.
It can work in a way. If you install WINE (winehq.com) you can run Windows APPS. But it won't load AAO :-P

Matt, you seem like a very mean person ^_^

A port to Linux won't work because CDC is made in Visual Basic 6, and Visual Basic 6 is made for Windows.

What wine does is 'emulates' windows by making a fake C: drive and after awhile of use you build up the .DLL files.. Check out the screenshots. You can even run IE on it :-P I've ran it, works well except you need a lot of DLLs to run things.
Deleon, I told him to get Windows because that would allow him to play in TWL Matches. Since there is no Linux CDC, this is the only option for playing.

and there will never be, my clanmate wanted to do it for twl but i guess they didnt want, no respond for mail
DirectC, it was all discussed on the forum.
Dun bring that shit here
sorry to burst your bubble Del.. but it was not "discussed."
i said i was willing to do it; to which the reply was silence. i even mailed an admin about options for Linux when he wanted more details... still no reply.
takes more than one to discuss.

what shit? i said there will be no CDC for linux am i wrong? and who are u to talk me what i shoud/shouldnt do. U dont wanna read truth dont read my posts.
You e-mailed an admin and they didn't reply?

If that is true you should tell Vlassic, the Quality control guy for TWL about it.

well, err, hmmmm...... {Knights}, look at the forum title(AA CDS Support), i think that explains what Del meant....

and that discussion, a thread more then 7 pages long about CDC for Linux is quit a discussion to me....
We told {Knights} what CDC was made off and he said he couldn't do it iirc.
interesting memory you got there...
i never said anything of the sort.
what i did say was that *if* i were to build a Linux client to work with the existing protocols, then i would need a specification of those protocols.
however, Hydra is using 3rd party VB (ActiveX?) "controls" for the comms logic, which would prove troublesome in the development of an alternate OS client due to the fact that it seems Hydra himself is working with a black box here. No source and no specs of the over-the-wire protocol == one solution : reverse engineering of the packet data. this is an endeavour that i do not desire to waste time with (and somethimg that may not even be possible if it is using some sort of private key encryption).
i suggested that Hydra write his own comms module, as this would altogether alleviate the burden of having to deal with this black box in the porting process, but this was never met with any sensible or relevant replies.
oh well... one can only try...
So basically, it was determed that it could not be done (by you anyway).
Does TWL stand for "The Windumb Ladder"???

I dont think so, its time to build a CDC release for Linux.
I´ve been pushed too far,
now it´s Time too fight.
I dont stop,
until the wrong´s
are doing right.

See you in Valhalla.
its a great thing that Hydra found the time to build CDC, if u have the ability to make a Linux app incl. servers and all, have fun! and im sure it will be greatly appreciated by all the Linux users

just dont hang to much on Hydra's shoulder to ask him to try and port CDC, he is way to busy for that....

(this post wasnt meant as sarcasme, it would be really cool if someone else takes the iniative and build a Linux app himself)

Does TWL stand for "we will do everything for everyone for free and we will accomodate everyone"?
Didn't think so.
A linux version would be nice yes, but don't make it sound like TWL *has* to do ANYTHING.
I cant read the Line " TWL HAS TO DO EVERYTHING FOR FREE FOR ALL " in my post.

Can you???
never mind. You get the point, don't you?
let it go deleon, some people just dont understand...
CDC for linux can be that hard: only checking the ini files in /pathweheraaisinstalled/System and ~/.armyops200/System because there are no linux cheats afaik

have you read the thread?
Hey,

The whole problem is that cdc is written for windows and detects hacks that are used in dx. If I run say army ops as a regular user, cdc can scan whatever that regular user is running but if I then su and fire up say TH or EH ... this area of memory can not be scanned by and apps launched with privileges less than root or system... They don't know how to do it. Kinda blows because windows is a virus infested operating system and it seems pointless for me to install it. (Funny that punkbuster was so easily ported but not cdc ... also kinda funny that CDC works on linux server side (they already have a linux port they just aren't releasing it ...) but not client side.)

Not really. CDS and CDC have completely different functions. If you thought of the first stuff of your post on your own and didn't just repeat someone else, you would understand that your remark above just doesn't make sense.
CDS just supplies some data to verify and receives results and processes them, while CDC has to scan memory, files, etcetera.

The first part of your post, concerning the CDC-problems sounds reasonable to me, tho I am no cheat-programmer, nor an anti-cheat programmer. However, you have the same problems under windows as in linux. If I run some bogus directX or bogus drivers (*cough*) which allow me to force wireframe, then you have the same problem. If I run a bogus *insert linux rendering-system here* u have the same problem.

Hey,

No, it makes total sense to me. They release the anti-cheat software for both windows and nix on the server side but not the client. Sounds more to me like the dev thinks(or knows) that there would be a problem with cheat detection on nix os'. BTW just because I know about the linux kernel and some of it's workings doesn't mean I am 100% familiar with CDS/CDC or it's workings. I just know what I know and that is if the server side is released for both os' then the client can be done so just as easily. Why not just make it mandatory to run CDC as root if you are using a linux os so it can scan all the memory it needs to? I know there are other ways but to me as a non-CDC programmer I bet this would be easiest(especially since permissions in nix are pretty basic...). It's not like the dev wouldn't have a billion volunteers if he asked for help from the nix community even on the AAO forums ... but then the question of releasing the code comes up. Damn open source eh? I can't wait till it grabs windows by the cohones and $#@$%# ^$@!!#$ $%##@# and then &%@#$ in the #@#$@ @#$@ and then stomps on it's #%#$%#$ mellon and ^&%#$% down it's ^##$%% Throat!!!

And I already explained WHY it's not so easy to do CDC as opposed to CDS.

And another thing: writing software for linux does NOT mean you have to make everything Open Source.

Hey,

So Delon(whatever), how would you suggest having the program scan ALL available memory. If it was run as system it would have the exact same access as root but I can actually run programs as root. How else are you going to scan roots memory? Your gonna try and do it as a regular user? Laff. If there are people out there who installed linux just because they think it will run aao better (check their forums, there are tons of em based on the noob questions) there are people out there who will run anything as root. Besides, when I run CDC on a windows system(I only used an admin account but that doesn't matter) who's permissions does it use? and what does it have access to? That's right. EVERYTHING... If people had to or even had the choice I am sure any nix user would rather run this program as root over installing windows, even on a dual boot.

Hydra is working on a .net conversion of CDC which might work with the mono-framework.
Feel free to contact Hydra if you think you are able to port CDC to linux.

I think everything that needs to be said about this subject is already handled in this thread and the FAQ.
I don't have anything to add at the moment.

Hey,

There is one more thing to say, QUIT FOLLOWING ME AROUND THE @#$$ING FORUMS A$$#$@.

Sexy

PS. you don't need to actually respond to this. That is more the point. PLEASE DONT RESPOND DELEON.

PPS. Me porting CDC over to nix would require source code and prolly a little help, though I know a few people in the nix community who probably have a little experience doing things like this.

Calm down.

I hope you also understand that not just anyone can help to code on CDC, since it's a very delicate subject. Therefore, getting a whole gang together isn't going to work. If you think you know a person that is trustworthy that is skilled, feel free to have that person contact hydra.
Hey,

Wow, a nice reply!! Yes, I do know people who are skilled in programming. Why even I took programming in college. I realize that porting the release may have SOME issues but ... nothing I haven't dealt with while writing other programs or scripts for nix. The people I would choose of course would be only the people I know and I do trust them and know they (all except for 1 that I am not sure about but he doesn't program anyways) don't cheat.

Sexy

PS. Men that hack on AAO are just trying to compensate for a lack in ... other areas!

PPS. I see a lot of "Get ahold of arsenal". I thought I saw his email in a post somewhere but ... I can't seem to find which staff list he is located on. :'(

You make it very hard to stay polite and nice. Every single post has a snide (sp?) remark of some sort...
Anyway, I donnow what you want from me/us. I told you what you could do a few times now.

Just to set the record straight, there isn't any *nix port of CDS. The entire CD System (CDS and CDC) runs on Windows only.
I hate when useful threads turn into pointless flames.

As for Linux port... what is better... Hydra to focus his time on Windows CDC, or to be divided between platforms?
