with all the talk of fixing the ladder lets set our sights on incorperation of the new patch quikly and smoothly as it adds quite a bit to clan play.

old problems right now
-respawn invincibility time is not adressed.
-more map options are needed(most of us like ctf best on all maps)
-round starts are not adressed(ex granade drop)

things 1.2 will bring that need incorperation
-new maps(im pretty sure)
-new map options dramaticly effecting game play
-new admin commands(involving map switch, restarts...)

the patch could come out at any time they arnt realy giving us a date. if it happens on a friday there should be some plan in effect for upcoming games if the rules are changed or if there is not time to change the rules.

thats all, just a heads up and tally to see where the admins stand ready. thanks

If you want to change the game type played or have more variety, then I say defender has choice of game type. You may prefer CTF, but I know I enjoy real war better, and so does -A-.
PP is referring to new features/fixes/utilities in the 1.20 patch that were *specifically* included for clan matches.

The problem -- as I see it -- is that he's bound by an agreement as a beta tester to not publicly discuss the details of the patch, yet he's looking for an opportunity to incorporate these features into the TWL rules as quickly as the patch becomes available.

I share his enthusiasm -- because we're beta testing too -- but I think we might [collectively] do better if we draft a proposal (which will be privately submitted) to the TWL admins which notifies them of the changes and hopefully allows for their rules modifications to happen soon after the patch released. I don't think it would be a gross violation of our beta testing if they agree to not release the details -- as if they're not already aware of what's in the patch

Anyway, we should talk, and try and include the admins in that discussion, but we should talk privately to avoid breaking our agreement.

*EDIT my sig host is the ninjabong.com server which has been up and down today for upgrades :-(

im not sure we should let them know the contents of the patch. agreed it would help insure some thing is done, but really a new draft of rules can be formed within 45 minutes of the patches release. the fixes/changes will be listed in a text file. it would be nice to be personaly involved in the rewrite but i trust the first draft could get us through a weekend

as for giving the choice of map type to the defenders-
i think defenders already have a upper hand. adding more advantage would not be helpful to fairness. personaly i was thinking of adding more types to the random picker and posibly getting rid of some. all to a comunity vote of course
I was wondering if other games on this ladder had similar team/class balancing issues as Vietcong.

Not to open a can of worms, but there is currently a discussion happening in the developer's beta forums detailing weapon/class balancing issues -- and I've found it severely handicaps the way I play. I know other ladders have teams play each side, and I'm sure there's good reason that things are the way they are here -- I was just wondering if the balance issues* were taken into account when applied here.

*they're honestly more _preference_ issues than anything -- until you get to Medic/Radioman on the VC side and then you're stuck with shit for weapons
Tribes 2 had SEVERE balance issues when it first came out. The CTF part of the game was insanely skewed to favor the flag/base defense.

The only thing that fixed the issue was the release of community-written mods that made offense fun and productive again without sacrificing the thrill of playing good defense.

Sometimes the community needs to step in and say "ok, you guys suck, it's our turn".

I don't know how moddable VC is or even if this is really an issue, but you wanted an example :]
Yes thanks.

The dev's are listening and have invited us to take part in testing/feedback of the upcoming patch. Good stuff. Mod tools still pretty far down the road (July/August... September?!).

What's the best way to facillitate fast action? irc.gamesnet.net #twl_vc?

We should all meet up at the admin's convenience when the patch is released and discuss the modifications to the rules -- if that's acceptable to boot and hypnotik.
Yes, it will be acceptable to them.

They just may not know it yet.
I like it

bit of a worry, the patch will cause queues on the internet, any chance of mirrors?

Vlasic, Boot, Hypno, Janus. I posted this in Polaris's sticky but i'll throw it here too.

For teams that dont know how to start a match until we get better admin controls. Set your server up to have a 5-10 minute 'buffer' map before each real map so everyone has time to settle into the server and get used to the pings. Once the Match map starts you immediatly begin that portion of the match. The only problems weve encountered using this system is the typical VC crashing to desktop or 'lost server' errors VC gives when the map changes but everyone usually gets back in within a minute and it hasnt affected an outcome of a match to my knowledge. This seems to work very well from our experiences i'd recommend it for the ladder until the patch is out. If your switching servers for the 2nd map just have a buffermap on the next server also and again if you go back to the original server for 3rd map and OT if necessary.
yea that ways not bad and we use it to with teams we feel cant handle the grenade starts. grenade starts are best but you need both teams smart enough to do it right. admin tools coming will solve it though.

but make sure theres a offical mention, this time, on how to start matches in the rules
