Disclaimer: I have no hateful feelings towards anyone in Estrogen. I actually love all of them, and am close friends with the majority. I also think that it's awesome that they are bringing more females into the gaming community. With that being said, on with my opinion:
I don't segregate. I don't take anyone seriously. Honestly, I have a lot of gamer friends that are girls, and guess what girls? We do the same shit to guys. I understand that you are trying to make gaming more appealing to women everywhere. However, this is gaming. There are some things about this community that will never change. One of those things is shit talking and/or jeering. Be it friendly, or be it down right vulgar, it will always be here.
If guy clans always came running to mommy when other guy clans made fun of them, we'd have one big community of whiners. We say derogatory things to each other (all types of gay comments are coming to mind) but we don't take them seriously, so why should you? I don't want females to come across as delicate to the rest of this community and I don't think you girls do either. I know all of you are very strong individuals and deserve respect, but I don't think whining about this disrespect stuff is the right way to approach the problem. In fact, this "problem" is part of internet gaming. It has been here since pong, and it will be here probably until we nuke ourselves in a world war III.
Just be strong and ignore this stuff. The more attention you bring to it, the more it will appeal to people who like to tease others. The teams that aren't harassed (be it all guys, or guys/girls or all girls) are the ones that ignore the jeering and belittling. I'm not even singling out Estrogen in this opinion. To all the clans/tribes that get a lot of jeering and attention, ignore it. Aurora gets attention all the time for cheats that may or may not exist. The fact that they just ignore it and let it go (most of the time) is working wonders for them. Why not do the same?
Someone's going to respond with, "But this keeps happening, how else are we going to stop it?" Guess what, I said that this jeering has been happening since the beginning of online gaming. Ignore it. If you can't learn to ignore the gaming community's quirks, you should really consider another hobby. We don't segregate only women. This community uses racial/gay/sexual slurs like normal everyday adjectives. And albeit juvenile, I don't believe whining about it is going to fix it. Ignoring it will. Steadily people will stop doing things if they don't get attention from them. That's the way society works. Paparazzi is only around because people in society keep wanting to know what celebrities do. If we ignored what the paparazzi did, they wouldn't do it anymore.
This opinion is only in relation to the public whining, I whole heartedly agree with having admins take appropriate action quietly towards teams that are blatantly derogatory.
Summary for the reading impaired: Stop whining, just ignore it. You're only fanning the fire if you whine.
