tournament sportsmanship

Everyone who still plays Tribes 2 today, and especially in these tournaments should be ashamed of what happened tonight. I have not been participating in the tournaments recently because they require too much of my time. That said, this week I logged on to IRC and chatted and played in a scrimmage Thursday and tonight was asked to substitute in a match where I saw the most disgusting display of sportsmanship I've witnessed in a long time.

I don't know what trash talk, and events lead up to tonight's stupidity, but I'm sure there was some, and I'm sure there was enough from both sides to go around. In the end, perhaps 50 minutes late, one team played with 10 players vs another with 12 players. How it got to that point, I don't know, I wasn't privy to most of it.

The result, I'm reminded of the worst side of competetive Tribes, and am not sad that I havn't been around. In short, grow up. Be mature, play the game honorably, and enjoy it for what it has left. I guess most everyone who played the map tonight, enjoyed the 50 minutes of stupid more than they enjoyed the game, and are probably pleased they sat at home and didn't actually play a match.

It's events like tonight, and the troubles that have happened in the past that destroy communities, and give people a bad taste for competeting at all. Why bother? It's often more trouble than it's worth. Food for thought guys.
Words from the GH Forums that I now have to eat because of crap like tonight:

Chzy, do you remember when you first started playing T2? How you-like the rest of us-got annihilated again and again until that one late evening when you got that MA to kill your nemesis? Remember how you didn't just blast a hole in him, but in the possibilities of the game itself? That same break-in period applies to competition and this community as well.

If you're willing to put up with the wall of BS long enough to pass through it, you'll see that it's not a wall keeping people out. Rather, it's a wall we've built that connects each of us through the silly goof-off sessions after hours of practicing, the crushing losses that drive us, and the irreplaceable Sunday night triumphs that call to us to give more.
Our voluntary pursuit of those moments of euphoria are what define us as players in this game.

The bond-that we've all shared through the crazy matches, the silly casts, the epic shit-talking, and the hilarious drama, and the things we set aside in real life to make room for them-that's what that wall is made of. You're only on the outside because you haven't shared that high yet, or because you don't think you can reach it again.

But you're wrong. If you're willing to give a little without quite giving in, the amazing members of this community will show you the greatest gift the game of Tribes 2 can give you. We've gotten married. We've LAN'ed up at each others' universities. We've mine-disced our way to a couch to crash on during a cross-country trip. We've celebrated new careers, explored new places to live, and even especially welcomed new family members for those lucky enough to start families (shoutout to TooTz!!!!).

The most amazing thing for me is that despite how much I gripe about having to set aside my real life to play this game, I'm always willing to let this T2 family into my real one.

That's what T2 offered and that's what I choose to let Tribes mean to me.

What it means to you, is up to you.
Psycore, i understand ur fustration, but dont leave because of 1 or 2 peoples poor attitude or sportsmanship, then they win. your a great player that has alot to bring to these tournaments. i highly enjoyed playing on your team last season. take a breath, and enjoy what little T2 is left.
I got to my parents house and set up my computer, then got on at 7:30 or so.

I join the server and there are like 9 people on the other team and some of them are telling our players (Mooley doubt and whx) to tag up or leave... Eventually somebody kicks those 3 from the server.

Why the fuck would you try to rulefuck about tags when you have 9 players in the server. You just pissed off people on our team (who were still waiting for you at 10:50EST or whatever).

I see this shit going down at almost 1 hour after match time and say "fuck these guys, kick fling and force it"

If you want sportsmanship you shouldn't be assholes. Golden rule motherfuckers. You rulefuck somebody, expect to get rulefucked back.

The fact that Fling was even playing in the match shows that YTBs team was being reasonable, but if you shit all over people don't expect them to do you any favours.
and i thought our match went poorly

Linchy Of T1/T2/T:V/T:A Fame!
it's real good sportmanship to force a team to sit 3 starters in a potential 10v10 because they dont have tags

.... when demos are required ....

it's ok i understand your suspicions of mooley #1 smurf
is it too late to signup?
There have been what 2-3 such blow-ups in all of the tourneys we've done? Per player hours and games/scrims played that ain't bad.

This shit isn't happening every single week.

I'm not going to be ashamed of shit, unless stuff like this happens every other week. Why should I be ashamed of it? I had no control over it. Nor did rilygarbels, or general kerr. Or the majority of the people in the server.

As for trash talk, there was none that I am aware of.

In short, a few people let themselves get out of control. Doesn't mean every single person playing T2 needs to be ashamed of themselves and the game they play.
After speaking with both teams captains and hearing the story from both sides, the following agreement has been reached.

The match will resume on Tuesday the 14th at 10est. Massive will be awarded to YTB's team (8-0) and the rest of the match will be played 12v12.

The rest of the details have been discussed with the captains and they are well aware. Good luck to both teams.

On a related note, sportsmanship in these tournaments had been very strong for the past few seasons. I am sad to see these events transpire after it seemed the community may have out grown them. Alas, internet games are serious business.

As a reminder, the tournament is a 12v12 team size format. However, rosters are extremely volatile and many players have significant availability issues. Teams may field 16 one week and 8 the next. I spoke with each captain before, during, and after the draft about sportsmanship and matching your opponents roster size on match day. I hope that I do not have to remind them again. I would also remind teams that matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 EST, not 10:30, not 10:45, not 11:00. Your team should be in server, ready to go at 10:00 EST. Some leniency is of course expected and sportsmanship is important, but part of that is respecting other peoples time and effort by being available when you said you would be available when you signed up to play.

With one week left before two teams are eliminated, the final four are rounding into shape, the remainder of this match has significant impact on the rest of the teams still vying for position. I think a cast would be mighty entertaining.

Come on Now. Tags have been required since the 10 year tournament. It's lazy and unsportsmanlike to not have them by now.
One side didn't have enough dudes. The other side didn't have tags.

Sounds like a lack of leadership. Slush doesn't tolerate this type of behavior.

No Tags = Write Up
No Call No Show = Suspension

Second offense of either of these = Termination
I've determined that the proper course of action is to reward neither of these sides with map wins. All wins shall be transferred to bend over.

I have spoken with rayne about this and expect the ruling to be made public any day now.
Not having tags was semi lazy on my part. Pretty much every tourney they'd work at the start then cease to function for whatever reason after that .. (it surely isn't cheats)

After the bs last night, I did a clean install. Wiped everything. This was after disable AV/firewall/Adding Exceptions, etc. They function now and I hope they continue too. The only reason I didn't go forward with a clean installation earlier is because it wasn't a issue until now.

It wasn't an issue last season when I capt the whole way without tags, so wtf. I just got caught in the middle this time when it seem to "matter" last night.

They cease to function again I'll just have to drop out than to deal with this bs in the fifth season of a 11 y/o game when "money" and lives at stake!
I just disable my AV shields and my tags work usually. Seems to be a common problem if you use avast or several other AV.
tags should be removed, they are only used by captains to gain an unfair advantage over another team. Back when I was captain, I never forced any one to sit because they didn't have tags.

I personally think the tag rule is completely stupid unless there is some kind of anti cheat attached to it (which there isn't).

Its completely arbitrary to force / need / have tags. Who gives a shit?

All I want is a fair game where I'm not going against pussies that force 12 on 10 in a draft and taunt when they get caps. Unfortunately, I can't play on Tuesday so it looks like the horrible defense on YTB's team is going to catch a break from me putting a beating on their below average brains.

Yeah, if you play defense on YTB's team, you absolutely suck. Enjoy lucking out and knowing that I would laugh at you and chain you down in 1 second. You are fucking choir children to me.

YTB is fucking fucco. Fucco. That's like being the base ladder's Gunther. Go fuck yourself, pussy. You never did shit in t2.
psycore = easiest ho to kill in t2. I doubt anyone is "affraid" of you lol

if tags are required then you take the time to get them

its really easy. takes about a minute

if you choose not to do that then you're fucked as far as playing. gg learn the rules and follow them

If 12s are required then you can take the time to show up

yep

unless 10 is the minimum roster size allowed to play
where are the rules posted
looks liek both teams are in the wrong and are idiots

get your tags or shut up and dont play

bring 12 or expect a forfeit. or if you're lucky maybe the other team will reschedule

its not rulefucking. its a tournament, you know the rules, you signed up for it, expect to play by the rules. i guess some of you guys forgot what its like to play against people with a competitive nature.

if you dont field enough players or wear the tags REQUIRED then what do you expect to happen. why should anyone bend hte rules to accomodate your laziness/tardiness.

there are times when exceptions are made in the best interest of the tournament, but when you start EXPECTING that people will bend the rules just because the game is 10 years old and this is the only competition left you're in the wrong.

if this is too harsh of a reality for you then i suggest you stop trying to compete in anything
We had 12, in server, at all times, with tags. 3 of 15 people we had in server didn't. Warhero rejoined halfway though with tags, taking us to 13 with tags. Mooley was working on tags the whole time.

Can't we just go back to the good ol' days where we discussed hexy and mistcane being confirmed cheaters and DS trying to rulefuck everyone in the butt.

CAN'T WE
Sorry the match was ruined. I didn't have fun either. Let's have fun tomorrow night.
caring about tags in any situation, whether it's a "rule" or not is about the nerdiest most pathetic thing in the world. if you try to argue this you're only proving my point. get fucked supernerds
tags require the newest T:N client that supposedly has some hm2 inhibitor

Thats why they require them. To stop the noob HM2ers.

Legit reason. Its not just asthetic.

Thats last I heard anyhow.

This was posted a long time ago and simply wasn't amended after the decision was made (with captain input) to increase the minimum team sizes to 12v12. Teams drafted rosters at least 20 players deep.
