Ok so this is the problem im having with some of the new maps that came with the patch.I will join a server or the server will switch to a new map and the map will load up to a certain point then it will kick me saying TIMED OUT.Some of the maps that do this to me are hillside and confusco. If anyone can help i would appreciate it thx. )
First, make sure you don't have any "competing" map packs installed. Often, when you have 2 or more versions of the same map, the game will kick you out for texture errors (happens mostly with Raindance and Stonehenge). Make sure you only have the Classic Map Pack installed for now. z0dd should come out with his XPack 2 soon that will fill in what you're missing. Also, if you played in the early PNet Betas of Classic, make sure you have NONE of those old map packs or Beta Classic client files.
Secondly, I know some of the maps have huge loading times, like White Dwarf. One thing you can do to allieviate that problem is to "unzip" your map pack. vl2 files are basically zip archives that T2 "unzips" on the fly each time you play. Its more convinient to delete/manage them that way, I guess, but that unzipping takes some time, and slower machines will really take a hit. Just take your Classic Map pack .vl2 file and unzip it using WinZip into your gamedata/base directory. Change the vl2 extension to zip if you need to. It should speed up your load times tremendously.
BTW, do that only if you're comfortable with it. Having all the files spread around in your T2 install will make any uninstall/modification much harder than just having a single easy-to-reach vl2 file. But I know it worked for a lot of people. Post edited by Flawed at 10/13/2002 9:48:29 PM
yah, i can't load stonehenge, i deleted everything =o
Sentor, check around on IRC. I think some people had to change the map pack by hand (I think change the tileset filenames that the map was looking for) before it worked. I don't know the exact process but I'm sure someone could help you out.
Unziped all the vl2's and still have the same problems with whitedwarf, hillside and many others. Anybody have any further ideas. It times out during load of object or missions. nathan mckinney
Had a clanmate with the same problem. This was his remark on how he fixed it.
I was having allot of problems with dropping out on several maps. I
investigate further and found a problem with the tcp receive window
settings in windows and the new version. Taking a closer look at it
and fine tuning to optimize my bandwidth has fixed this problem. It is
in effect, to many packets on the network and out of order that caused
this problem for me.
