Define O-Sniping

So i'm in the mofo titty bar (dunno why i went there in the first place) and i decide to just grab a loadout that happens to have a rifle in it. Other team has the flag so i decide to kill the guy with it. So i get close to him, he see's me and i see him and so we start duelin. At one point he jets up real high, and since i have no cg, i whip out my sniper. Of course i miss, and after gettin killed i get warned for "osniping".

So now i'm pissed, but i figured it was just some whiney noob that had told the admin to warn me so i ignored it as a mistake. Now i'm comin up on their base with the intention of just fightin everyone i see, when i spot someone with low health. So i whip out my rifle and try and snipe the guy. Of course i miss again so i start skiing towards their flag area to see how long i could last without being killed. Next thing i know i'm being warned again. So i ask the admin if he knows wut osniping is or if he just intends on banning the snipe altogether. Next thing i know KICK...

So my question is, does the definition of osniping now include simply usin the damn thing? Or does that admin need to be given a timeout and then spanked.

don't snipe at all past the 1/2 way point of YOUR side of the map.

DX for example...HO spammin your base from the end of his bridge(don't snipe him!) HO moves forward to the end of the bridge on YOUR side of the map....goathead n snipe him.

I am quite pissed off about this rule also, it used to be somewhat similar in Rapture Comp East except you could snipe the flag carrier. They still didn't allow osnipers but they weren't such assholes about the rules.

We once had a vote on the Mofo Forums (with links to TWL) for the purpose of deciding whether to make an exception to the rule as it applies to flag carriers. It was decided then that the rule would also apply to flag carriers (meaning shots at flag carriers on their side of the map is osniping, and therefore forbidden).

Because: (i) we already voted on it; (ii) have a great number of admins who all know and enforce the rule; and, (iii) all the players who have played there for more than 5 minutes know and expect the rule to be enforced; it is not likely to change.

Very... Osniping is when you are sniping on the Offensive side of the map, and sitting in that position till you die. You do not move to play either flags and constantly shoot at the other teams ld.

My definition would be sniping anyone on defense or the flag carrier during a standoff. If there's a heavy spamming your base from his (or at least from his side of the map), by all means I say snipe the guy.
Shooting random defenders, however, is just annoying as hell and rarely useful. Sniping the flag carrier at his own base during a standoff might also seem fair, but it is not even close. If he's even outside, he's doing a gracious favor to your team. It would save him a lot of grief to just go inside his base and turtle and ruin the game for everyone. It's only fair that you don't skillessly snipe him when he's in the middle of fighting off the non-newbies on your team.

Yep. And 99% of warnings/kicks are not for this on the titty bar. admins should be smart enough to distinguish the two, but it seems they aren't.

Thats what I always got kicked for. Didn't matter how many FCs I killed or flags returned...I snipe on some retard SNIPER LD and I got the boot.

The other lame thing is the admins spend 99% of their time trying to police osniping which also contributes to shitty team play. So much easier to allow osniping as long as its not rampant gayness style oob osniping and just kick people who turtle right away if they're worried about people taking the flag inside.

Just my $.02 though. I've never much understand whiny faggots who cry about osnipers nor have I ever had an ounce of sympathy for them. If you're defense and you can't countersnipe an osniper then you deserve to die.

I define O-sniping as camping in a general area or moving around outside of the enemy base sniping LD/MD/HD/w/e without any intent of flag play. However a capper should be fair game to anything. If you have the flag there shouldn't be a "Well you can't kill me with this weapon" rule. That's why the majority of pubs are retarded. T2 classic is already so offensively oriented why give more of an advantage to the capper? Capper should expect to be killed by any means possible not protected by some lame ass rule that some pussy came up with so he doesn't die as easily.

Sniping the flag carrier is even more lame and fucking retarded then osniping. I dont mind in Matches but in a fucking pub its gay as fuck. Why not go in and actually duel someone and return the flag yourself? thats why half the T2 community new and old sucked at chasing, and or playing the flag.

I used the sniper rifle and I was a chase LD and I have no problems "playing the flag" at all. Knowing when to use the sniper rifle and when to go in with disc/grenade/chain whichever you're using in your loadout determines your skill at it. Most of the time I won't be the only one chasing so if I'm in a position to drop the flag carrier and someone else is in the position to return I'll take that shot.

The thing about this game is it's TEAM based so you can rely on other people and not just yourself. The ability to successfully use certain weapons in certain situations to your advantage has always seperated the good and bad players. You should know this mighty TeeToo Veteran Gunslinga! Making rules that only allow players to do certain things at certain times just forces people to play your game not the game. However this is the essence of pub play so it matters not. It's unfortunate but what ya gonna do? I know play WoW!

I try to avoid sniping, and I have fun chasing, but in standoffs this should be alloud. Mostly because in pubs there will be 8 guys at the covering the flag carrier, and one guy going for the return on both teams.

Also for one time could you make the turrets explode when they repair. I can't stand when there will be some fucking farmer as soon as it is 7v7 with stacked D.

No on the contrary I think it has alot to do with the fact that the use of certain "tactics" were not banned from use during play. Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating that all osniping be allowed but the fact that you're hindering player's ability to use an extremely valuable tool in a situation as important as returning a flag is insane. If you don't see that then I'm afraid there's no point arguing with you further.

See that's not what I'm arguing about though. That is in fact a bit lame but not allowing people to kill a flag carrier with a rifle while he just dances around their side of the map just because they don't want to get killed by a rifle is just plain stupid.

Obvious rules like "don't tk your teammate like an idiot" are sensible rules since that's just being disruptive to the game. Sniping a flag carrier on the other hand is not only helping your team but promoting a faster paced game.

Yeah, it is insane, but it is necessary. In a match it can be dealt with easily depending on the opposing teams skill... but in a pub there is no "opposing team" per say. There's a good chance the carrier has little to no people defending him... so just simply taking two snipes at him that no non-turtling player can do anything to stop is far from fair and definetly ruins the fun of the game. You need to realize that there is, should be, and always will be a thick line between pub play and match play. That line is kept in place by necessary rules that disallow these tactics.

Faster game for everyone. 30 min stand offs are just fine and dandy but without someone actively trying to kill the flag carrier especially in pubs where little to no coordination exists, pubs become slow and become less and less interesting.

Actually, most people are trying to kill the flag carrier. What people are not doing, is defending their own flag carrier. 30 min standoff only happen with turtling allowed. Without turtling, the flag are rarely kept away from play longer than the 6 minute anti-turtle clock, which is already in place just in case it does go for that long.
