I am just curious, the patch was in beta 4ever I mean like months, anyone who plays this game diehard knew of its exsistance and its latency issues early on, did we all not test this out and tell Sierra hey, you have this bug and that bug, I mean wasnt that the whole point behind the Beta?? Did these guys flat out not listen to us or were there not enough people who actually gave a shit to test the beta out and post feed back.

Just wondering??
it was stable during testing from what I saw.

Something went awry in the final testing at Sierra it seems. Or something was introduced that caused lag.

A LOT of the "bugs" that were reported were caused by scripts. So, yes, a LOT did go unnoticed. These guys go install these scripts and packs and shit, and expect it to run perfect.

The best way to beta test is by running NOTHING. Flat-out clean install and of course the patch.

I for one didnt have ONE problem when I was clean installed with patch. And I didnt even hear of one problem. All have to do with scripts. Wait, Im not sure, but I /think/ someone said they had no rets with NO scripts installed. And of course the dual CPU server thing, but hey, error is human ;P

I may be wrong, but I think the beta itself was considered secondary by the community. As I remember, the focus was mainly on the new mods/gametypes. Which is understandable from the communities perspective. But less understandable from Sierra's perspective.

Consider just how exhaustively Classic/TR2/V2 have been (and still are being) tested publicly with public feedback. It strikes me as odd at this point that community mod coders did a better job than Sierra at this, or GG for that matter. (Nothing personal to the programmers or mod coders. I would expect more from a professional enterprise).
One of the biggest problems was people didn't have the ability to run their own servers so there was a relatively small sampling of servers to get data from... thus many configurations were left untested. Between that and modifications made to make it all work well together these bugs came about.

The moral of the story is don't change the server code and not release it for beta. ;|
Well, considering their plans to fix the now known bugs, this patch is more of an open beta than the previous one was :P
I'm just glad that they're dedicated to fixing the problems.

Clicky!
Not to mention no one really cared for the servers the beta was on.

Incorrect, the beta was available to the public to download and put servers up with. What was not available to the public were the mods for good reason.

too bad no one was interested in playing base on the beta patch. Had people been able to run TR2 and Classic servers themselves, i'm sure some of these issues would have been caught. I do however understand the reasons that this wasn't done.

Perhaps we should just think of the 25026 patch which so many people have dl'd and are running now as beta 5 of the final patch.

I played the beta from the moment it was available until the moment the release was available. No problems.

Release comes out and bam! No reticle. Somebody needs to update sierra on software deployment procedures and best practices.

Not for good reason. That was foolish.

Excuse me? So it's our fault then? Good reason? The Russians surveiling your house are they? Classic have anything to do with national defense?

Here is the bottom line. Basically the same people that hammered T2 from the start have hammered it again. Predictable. Things that were broken and should have been fixed havent been. Things that worked are now broken. And all this from a group that wouldnt start work until 'money issues' were resolved. (While customers were suffering from UE's caused by other company programmers). Money for what? To do this? Is this some kind of joke? Are the people that made this mess (whether it was Sierra or GG) actually planning on operating as a professional business? You think we should have taken responsibility back then and done the testing on our own initiative after all the promises that T2's history wouldnt be repeated?

At this point it is my opinion that Sierra/GG are and have been the biggest problem with T2. (Ironic) The community keeps it alive because they enjoy playing a game that was all but created by accident rather than by design. The key elements were 'discovered' by the community rather than invented. (Skiing) And those key elements may have been the result of lack of testing and bad code .... like this patch. They got lucky once. I think we have been unlucky more than once.

I can wait some more, atleast I've got classic mod.

I've seen some moronic finger pointing in my 46 years, but this is reaching epic proportions.
How can anyone in their right mind blame the very people that wrote the game?
The suits, maybe, the corporate mentality, maybe, the guys that made the game?...nothing but for them all. They literally pour their hearts into these games.
When we all played on 286s with sound blasters that all had the same irq and we were all running the same version of dos, the variations in hardware were small enough to more easily take them into account and write games. As well the games were all what, 10mb?(DN3D was 17mb) Now we're installing half gigabyte games, with hundred meg patches...we all have different configurations...and people wonder why there are errors.
I for one, religously tweak and fuss with my computer, I haven't installed Comet Cursor, I clean my registry, etcetera - the game has been fine for me since 3/31/01.
The UEs I've had were from alt tabbing with my gf2.
And other than USER induced errors, I've had none, nada, zip.
ZOD & z0dd and all the Dynamix alum.
You guys have nothing but my respect and thanks.

With all due respect to you, purchase and play UT2K3 and you will not see 1 UE.

rofl, UT2k3 crashes like a beast. Random disconnects from server, random crashes, bad studdering at random times. Oh yeah, perfectly bug-free.

We need tribes 2 with Half lifes Net code ^_^ dont think I've ever seen Counterstrike players complain about ue's just hacks heh
I have not the vaguest idea why zandZ are being brought into this. I was very clear.

Dynamix designed a game that didnt turn out the way they intended. It was the community that defined T1 not Dynamix. Dynamix were along for the ride, IMO. The community found a fun playstyle and that defined T1.

In terms of Dynamix/Sierra/GG/DEV, T2 started badly and punished T2 customers with a series of painfull problems and patches. It was the community that kept many people in the game. (Base++ etc). And to this day, Dynamix/Sierra/GG/DEV metaphorically cant find their butts with both hands. This patch isnt anomalous. It's pretty much in character with all the others. And it is still the community that is trying to save the franchise with great works like Classic/TR2 and V2. In case you hadnt notice, my point is it's the community that is carrying T2. Give credit where credit is due.

I'm only surprised (and a little embarrased) that I didnt see this coming.

Man, I must be lucky ... no T2 probs (except reticle -- thanks DEBig) and no UT2K3 probs.

I need to game more so I can find more bugs!!

One of the biggest things that drove me nutz with every single patch released was that they all set my connection to 56K, could this be the main reason why soo many people have had latency issues?
