Effective 5/31/06 1.3 will be approved for match play for all BF2 leagues and ladders.

We understand several teams fustration with what appeared to be TWL dragging its feet on this matter, there was a reason for it.

Our main concern at TWL, when a patch comes out, is player and server game stability. The initial reports from players where, to be honest, horrifying from our standpoint. CTD's (crash to desktop) for players were insanely bad. GPS providers were reporting serious server crash problems. Add to that the problems with PsB streaming that was to be implemented, there was no way for us to make a "quick" decision.

As of May 31st, the 1.3 patch is approved.

A few quick notes...

  • Doing the incremental patch seems to create more CTD's for the majority of players. Use the full patch and we are hearing and seeing a much smaller problem.

  • It is not up to TWL to tell teams "how" to play their game of choice, just provide a sanctioned, fair playing field to compete and assess any stability problems. That being said..

  • Use of jeep drops to climb on buildings, in leagues and ladders, is allowed. We feel this is no different than using supply crates to accomplish the same effect.

  • Use of jeep drops to blow up arty in ladders and league. Both teams can drop a crate and fix the arty, both teams can drop a jeep to destroy it. Its legal but pending feedback from match play.

  • Use of jeep drops on players in ladders and leagues. look up more. legal

  • Use of jeep drops on static vehicle spawn points in ladders and leagues. legal, if you want to let your armor sit there, we cant tell teams how to play.

  • 5v5 specific ladders and leagues. Use of a jeep drop by commander will be treated same as use of arty. Touch it, you forfeit the round.

  • you can now throw C4 again. its legal, same as it was first 8 months of BF2.

  • PsB Streaming will be made mandatory for leagues as soon as its available.

  • nice. thanks.
    bf2 & ea ghey!
glad its approved but.. dropping vehicles on arty = wtflegal?

It's that difficult for you to patch your server? You should have had the patch downloaded and ready to install, knowing this approval was coming from reading these forums.

Are you kidding me? I don't run a stand alone box for our server. We just rent a server and the company updates as they get the chance. If I had my own box, it's a different story. Thanks for telling me what I should have done, next time please think before you tell me how to run my server. And there was discussion in the leadership forum about this very topic with icred. And it was stated that at least a days notice would be given. And I don't consider 2 minutes "at least a day's notice." That's what I was trying to say. Last time the patch came out the very same thing happened here. It's a joke. Approve it on a tuesday so the leagues that play thursday, sunday and monday can get it done in time for their match. Common sense comes into play, appearantly not when it comes to patching.

I don't have a standalone box either, but our GSP is very flexible about the patching. Our public server was patched immediately and our private, when we were ready.

I wasn't attempting to tell you how to run your server, but having read these forums you should have known this patch was coming and made preparations. If you were expecting a day's notice, then you shouldn't be complaining about "planning for weeks".

And last I checked, If both you and the other team agree to used 1.22 in match comms, it's allowed.

All I'm saying is give the admins a break. They bust their azzes to keep us updated and put a lot of effort into ensuring that the patching won't be detrimental to upcoming matches. Basically they are doing the QA that EA isn't.

    What does this mean?
meaning that if you drop a jeep, you forfeit that round.

    Stupid.

I would like TWL to officially ban supply crates, as they can kill unsuspecting people who sit still on a hill for too long.

They aren't banned because they kill people. They're banned because they are vehicles, which is forbidden if BF2.

If you really want to crush someone, or jump up somewhere, use a supply crate. Dropping Vehicles has no use or place in 5v5.

seeing as how vehicles aren't allowed in 5v5 match play, why should vehicle drops be allowed? We're not about to deal with vehicle stacking if vehicles aren't allowed in the first place.

    edit: see Mattc0m's post above

and UberXploit...if you don't have anything productive or mature to add to this thread, just don't post. Thanks

Would you want to review demos and screenshots everytime someone may or may not have dropped vehicles on artillery? I know I would!

Bottom line, supply crates serve a purpose other than killing people, whereas dropped vehicles serve no other purpose in a 5v5.
