Clarification of need of before match screenshots?

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-09-13 · 21 posts
recently my clan was in a dispute with another for using some sort of no fog cheat. The other team was quite cooperative in showing up for screenshots inbetween rounds. A lot of aggrevation persued. After the match, we started coming up with the idea that taking screenshots before the maps is futile. The no-fog hack is done outside of BF and can be shut off on the fly. Screenshots can be photoshopped. ScreenShots just seem futile.
Am I the only one with this feeling? Am I out of line in expressing this?
We lost the first map (RTR) and won the last 2. We do not cheat. Look at our history and you'll see that we don't do very well on RTR maps. We completely followed every rule of TWL. But when the other team starts telling us for each individual member to connect to their ftp and upload all the screenshots and log our IP's...that we will not cooperate in and frankly, no other clan would either. We emailed the admins, they reviewed the case and made their decision.
I don't know if my opinion is needed here, but my clan played a lot against PiC in the last time, and I can assure you that they are not cheating.
I dont think this thread is about the "cheating" thing, frakly i dont give a damn one way or another anymore. Im sure i have killed a couple of people in my plane leaving the victim asking how the hell i knew he was there and killed him so efficiently... But whatever.

The whole screenshot thing is futile, the 2 most used cheats ATM can be turned off in seconds with a push of a button... The only thing a screenshot can do is tell whether someone is using different skins, toadvision, etc. Who needs pink skins to aim at when you can check your minimap and see the bugger coming from the other side of the map?

It just adds to the length of the match, which is already quite considerable... And i dont think anyone feels "safer" with the knowledge that someone took a pretty team photo with a tank in the background.

By the way, patch 1.45/1.5 that is coming with SW is supposedly going to put an end to the RAM hacks as told to me by 2 different EA people. I hope they get it right this time.

With the whole CRC check, there shouldn't be a need for screenshots. If some of the current hacks get around CRC, then screentshots are probably not going to make a difference anyway. I say we should just scrap the SS altogether.

When Secret Weapons finally comes out, I'll get ready to throw my BF1942 into the garbage for ANY other game that is out at that time. EA/Dice does not deserve any more of my money.
PiC is good people. They have too much skill to need to cheat. Im sure they beat ya fair and square. But i might be outta line here

You sure are out of line here...where did I mention PiC? I mean really. I could honestly give a rats #$$ right now about that particular match. Keep the thread on topic, which is about how useless screenshots are currently.
screenshots are and always have been a futile attempt. what do they stop? edited maps. most of the cheaters out there use trainers to tweak memory addresses on the fly and get around this.

false sense of security, i've said this from day 1

I think everybody knew that making screenshots is more then useless. When somebody is cheating (maybe using the fog-hack), why would he make screens that are showing he is using something? No, I think Fark_Maniac is right: when you're using something, you make screenshots without it, and switch it on after its done.

You can see the enemy on your minimap?
Screenshots do one thing.

They keep people from using the more common skin hacks. Like green/red helmets (which are needed for any type of aimbot) and texploit that places a "indicator" above your head.

I know there are hacks that get around screenshots, but I would rather them go through the trouble of having to use two or three installs to get around the pure server then have them use one with all their hacks installed. (There is no current way to see if a server is running pure without trying to join it with hacks OR MC installed)

So screenshots will remain in effect.

Screenshots only need to be taken ONCE at the begining of the match UNLESS a player leaves the server or the teams switch servers between rounds. You do not have to take one at the beginning of every map. If someone drops during a round when that person re-joins then they need to update thier screenshots.

Have there been any teams that have been caught cheating and/or punished because of cheats found in their screenshots?

This is not my pic, but a pic someone found and presented during our discussion.

**Please dont encourage people to go looking for these....yes we are aware that these exist.**

hi vis skins aren't an issue in '42. at least sure as hell not anywhere near as bad as the stuff you can't stop with it. ss's are a pain in the ass and futile.

Well then you can take them off the ladder that you run....leave mine to me thanx...
Can we have a vote on this?
Got that fancy voting feature in your software

Or maybe if both teams agree on no screenshots they dont have to take them?
If it comes to a vote, I vote we keep the screenshots. It may seem like a waste of time, but I'm in favor of anything that reminds people that cheating is taken seriously.
I think screenshots add 5 minutes more wasted time to matches that never start on time anyway. The ONLY thing that could catch cheaters this way is with a demo mode, which as we all know isn't there. With all the cheat programs have on the fly enable and disable it makes SS's pointless since that person chooses whether or not it should appear in the SS.
Taking the screenshots isnt that bad if both teams participate and dont be asses about it, come on, your say meet at this base, everyone goes there and groups up, hit print screen a couple times then restart the map. It doesnt hurt a bit, its like locking something up, it really only keeps the honest ppl honest. The determined cheaters will find a way around it but I dont think most gamers are that determined to cheat if its tuffer to do so. Hell half the ppl gaming are only smart enuff to find the server when its time...... I would vote to keep them

Well if a screenshot can eliminate at least one cheat that can't be turned off with a switch it is a good thing.

Some people tend to imply that this is a waste of time.hmmm...well not everyone may have all the "knowledge" that "some" have concerning cheats. And if this can keep these newer people honest than it is a good thing.

Also it also seems that if some are not happy with the way TWL does things ...they can make a choice

Screenshots are here to stay. Yes I know about the togglable cheats. I also know that as of 1.45 (with the sw demo) all these cheats do not work. Yet the skin hacks do.

Until certain things are fixed with the game screenshots will remain mandatory.
