The maps are insane!
do you know if these will interfere with the "pure" setting on servers?

Also any way of getting some more info like # of flags etc? Maybe some shots of the command screen?

Keep

PS I am d/l'ing and will check them out.
aslong as the server has the maps on the server... they won't interfere with the "pure" settings... if anything is one the server... a script, maps... etc etc... then it's considdered pure.

atleast that's what I cought when I was reading on it
To my knowledge, one of the pure settings REQUIRES a vanilla BF install. It would surely interfere with that. The other pure settings requires that the CRCs match those of the server. However, supposedly if someone puts hacks on the server, and you dont have the hacks, you can still play.

I wouldnt count too much on the pure settings anyways as there is no way to tell if the server is even running them.

Ill just link to a comprehensive review:

Your server can not be "pure" to run any custom maps. There is that one setting (2?) That will only let people connect if they match what is on the server. Not pure, but not totally unpure either.
What about clients? The maps look really sweet and I would love to play them, I just don't want to mess up my pure install.
Clients is fine, if you have any "problems" just move the map .rfa out of your bf directory than your back to normal
nice!

I'm going to get all over this map pack like a fat kid on a smartie. Great work guys! First round of Rev Flies is on me for the csab Calgary crew.
To run these maps we would have to change our rules from pure(1) to pure with mods(2).

I am ok with that. I had such a blast playing a new map that I didn't care about anything else.
Well guys, I tested these tonight with some help from csab|dread, and the results are disappointing.

While the maps have potential, they require the content checking to be "off" completely to work.

While we all know the pure setting there is a setting which EA, to my knowledge, hasn't done a very good job implementing.

So to add maps from the community into competition, we open ourselves up to the hackers of the world.

GG EA....

Icred, to my knowledge it is impossible to determine which pure mode the server is running in, and for that reason, content checking should not be used as an anti-cheat.

thus the .cfg files we provide with Pure turned on.
Icred, if a clan wanted to cheat, they could just load a different config on their server, and nobody would be able to tell because the server doesnt display what pure setting it is in.
I think your missing the point...

And I would be able to tell as soon as I loaded up my merciless install and came into your server sucessfully.

Fire is right though, I wont get into it all here, let's talk on irc..
Would it be possible to generate CRC data for custom maps and then use "game.serverContentCheck 2"?? Based on this it sounds like it may be:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battlefield 1942 version 1.4: CRC content check
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DICE has rewritten the CRC checking system to let server administrators decide
if they want to allow client side modifications on their servers. The system
is based on the game.serverContentCheck server setting and a number of
contentCrc32.con files.

The serverContentCheck variable can now take on three values:

0 - All clients are allowed.
1 - Only clients with default installations are allowed.
2 - Only clients with installations matching any of the server-defined CRCs
are allowed.

The conentCrc32.con files are parsed by the server to load a set of CRCs that
will be considered as valid. As clients connect they will be checked against
these values. The CRC files reside in the directory of each mod.

Generating CRC data for mods
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you decide to allow a certain client side mod, or if you need to generate
CRC checksums for a client/server mod follow these steps:

1) Use a client installation of the mod you are working on.

2) Run the following command from the bf1942 install directory:

bf1942.exe +generateMapListForCrcContent 1

This will instruct the game to write out a batch file called
"mapListForCrcContent.bat".

3) The batch file contains commands to generate CRCs for all maps of all mods
which probably isn't what you want. Therefore, edit the batch file with a text
editor to include only the maps you need.

4) Run the batch file from the bf1942 install directory:

mapListForCrcContent.bat

The game will start and stop once for every map in the batch file. As
levels are loaded, their calculated CRC checksums will be written to the
contentCrc32.con file of the current mod. If you need to run this serveral
times please note that values are appended, not replaced. Therefore it can
be useful to keep a backup copy of the original contentCrc32.con file to be
restored before generation.

5) Copy the resulting contentCrc32.con files to the server.

Hmmm well that last post seems somewhat promising. Then all we need to do is get the mappack makers to generate a file that contains the CRC's of the mappack files and include it in the pack...

This is possibly something we can work with IF its feasible.

We could find all the maps that we wished to add to the rotation. Generate a "Competition" mappack. Generate a CRC.con file (with a backup of original as well) Then just have the users/server install the mappack and things SHOULD work as planned....

anyone care to test this?
okay icred, your right, you can spend the time to test every server in order to see if its pure or not.
still missing the point.....

I tried it out yesterday but couldn't get it to work. I generated the CRC data for the CSAB maps and added it to the contentCrc32.con in the ...mods/bf1942 directory but still got the "data differs from server" message when using game.serverContentCheck 2.
