Season 1 Playoff Announcement

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-05-22 · 35 posts
Are as follows:

American Conference:
Alpha Division - Deadly 2 Dozen, Hell Katz Squad
Beta Division - Warsaw, Canadian Army Group

National Conference:
Alpha Division - d.emise, The Hell Crew
Beta Division - 20ID, Cabal Kabob

Rules show the Week 1 Playoff map. Schedule in this manner:
Week 1 determines Division Champ
Week 2 determines Conference Champ
Week 3 determines League Champ

Good luck to all the teams that made it. And believe me the American Beta was the hardest tie to break with 3 teams sitting with 16 pts.

I and my League staff welcome any feedback on improvements or changes for Season 2.

EDIT:
I misread a Tie Breaker.
Warsaw is in versus NERV. I apologize for the confusion.

Can someone explain to me the tiebreaker for American Beta division?

We beat both TD and KIN in our division with KIN having defeated CAG. If KIN > CAG and WS > KIN how is CAG > WS? And TD was one of the better teams in our division. Hell they made the second playoff round at CAL.

So I'd like a good explanation as to how we were left out. Your rules call for tiebreaker matches if necessary, so why are we not playing one of those if it's so close?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
It also sucks that a team with only 12 points got in when you have several teams sitting with 16 and 17 league points respectively

Maybe consider making the playoffs bigger. taking more teams or putting tie breaker rounds in.

Thanks for the correction Reign.

CAG is still in correct? I would assume our regular season victory over NERV would give us a tie-breaker over them.
I would like to know how our division was decided. CAG did not beat us in regular season it was on the omaha fiasco which was just an exhibition. Neither of us 3 played eachother in the regular season so what did you base your descision on?

I thought I explained the tie, at least how I saw it, really well:

Here is also another problem. Some of the teams have been getting forfeit wins but they haven’t been earned them as two won rounds. Prime example being the last three teams that played MH (Kin, Warsaw and DLR) where none of us got to add two rounds to our "rounds won" category. In fairness, the RW column should equal 2x the W category so that teams are not penalized for having their opponent not show up (and other mathmatical errors can also be corrected).

/sidenote
I'm thinking some code needs to be fixed in the match reporting system. Maybe instead of having input fields you can just have a radial buttons or check boxes reporting. Also, we need to make sure RW and RL isn't affected by matches that aren't counted towards the league play.

The Standings just looking at the Beta Division in the American Conference: If Kin wins, we take 1st and NERV & CAG are put into a tie. If Kin loses, Warsaw, NERV and CAG are put into a 3-way tie where none of them have played each other.

This means that these teams would drop to breaking the tie by the Round Win Differential. IMO after looking at each of their records, they would all be tied because a forfeit should give you 2 RW, putting them all at 10RW, and all of them currently have 3 RL.

Thus they would have to have their ties broken by “Strength of Schedule”. I honestly don’t like the sounds of that and after looking at all three of their schedules, I would say that you would still have a tie. The only tie breaker would be for Warsaw to beat Kin since Kin beat the other two, so Warsaw would take first and that would still leave NERV & CAG in a deadlock for second.

At this point, the only way to break it would be to set up more matches. CAG & NERV hasn't played each other in league play because the Omaha week didn’t count. So from what I see, CAG and NERV are going to end up needing a tie-breaker. The only scenario where the tie-breaker won't be very important is if Warsaw only beats Kin 2-1, thus knocking them out of the "Round Win Differential". Still, in this case the tie-breaker would be needed to decide which team was #1 and which was #2.

All three teams won 5 matches, so RW = 10. and each team only has RL = 3, so you should have a three way tie. NERV and CAG did not play against each other in the head to head. They should be playing a tiebreaker... Like I said last week.
I guess they are not to concerned to explain themselves. with a 5-1 record and only 6 games played. Yet the other teams with 7 to 8 games total lower points get in before we do. Also please explain to me how your team got in even after u guys swith divisions to be in second place.

R..Team.....P W L D RW RL pct
1. |NERV|...16 5 1 0 9 5 .833
2. Warsaw...16 5 1 0 8 3 .833
3. CAG......16 5 1 0 10 3 .833

Here are the standings for those 3
Now taking the these 3 teams you take the best team out of the 3. CAG has the most RW's and tied for RL's. Now seeing as they have the more the RW's w/ the team they are tied w/ for RL's. Would essentially put them as #1 out in their Division. Which should basically mean that Warsaw and NERV should have to play the tie-breaker, and then the winner takes on CAG.

I believe this is how Reign has it. But in the Beta Division First round, he should have an * where Warsaw vs CAG is. Unless of course Warsaw has already played NERV and won. That being the case... well then ignore this.

If it goes by RW, we are second therefor should be in the playoffs. Also we should only have 3 rl for some reason the omaha rounds were included.

The other thing is CAG has 3rl and 10 rw. That includes Omaha Beach, There 3wl is due to the kin winning two and us winning one on Omaha. 10rw is them winning twice on Omaha.

CAG 8RW 2RL
|NERV| 8RW 3RL
Warsaw 8RW 3RL

Check our history we have Omaha counting for points and so does CAG.

I was under the impression that Cabal Kabob was going to give up their playoff position. The only reason they qualified is because they switched divisions. Doesn't quite seem fair that an admin's team was switched and now qualifies for post-season play when the division they were transferred from has FIVE teams with more points.
Post edited by NC-17 at 3/8/2003 8:34:56 PM
LOL, this is hurting my head now. Since we beat KIN and KIN beat both NERV and CAG, doesn't that seed Warsaw #1?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
OK, I think I figured what the thinking was:

Teams are seeded by:
1. Points
2. Wins
3. Head to Head
4. Round Win Differential
5. Strength of Schedual
6. If teams are still tied at this determining factor, the 2 teams in question will play each other to determine who earns the higher seed.

WS, CAG, and NERV are tied regarding points 1 and 2.

WS wins point 3 because we beat KIN and KIN beat both CAG and NERV.

CAG then wins point 4 with a 8-2 RW-RL record to NERV's 8-3 RW-RL record. Hence WS and CAG make playoffs.

This only counted regular season matches and doesn't include Omaha. I think this is what Wolven has been saying all along in his other post.

Post edited by SlackAttack at 3/8/2003 10:17:41 PM
yeah, although I don't think that is how head to head works, head to head is only if you play the other team.

so I had CAG take #1 spot on point 4 (round dif) and Warsaw takes the #2 point on point 5 (schedule). ws wins on the schedule because you guys beat us and we beat NERV.

*sob*

really, either way you look at it, NERV is out (sorry guys). If CAG had that one extra round loss then there should have been a tie breaker match.

So the playoffs should be:

Deadly 2 Dozen vs Warsaw
Canadian Army Group vs Hell Katz Squad

20ID vs The Hell Crew
d.emise vs [team that replaces CkB]

Can you tell Wolven ran a league back in the day? The TSL days... *shivers*

i'm pretty sure that you play in your division for round one. demise v. THC, 20id v whoever replaces CKB...at least that's how it was setup when i was DC'ing around here

am i to take it that you won't be scheduling us and we'll have to contact our opponent the old fashioned way (no match comms) ?

and WOW, playing 20id on Gazala (crap map) that'll be fun. maybe we can agree to change it to omaha.

LMAO Maher.

That break down seems right. We thought we were tied with warsaw do to the rounds won and rounds loss differential. Only 1 one and we would have been in, OUCH that hurts.

Funny how the teams answer and explain and not the admins. Thanks guys.

Can we please have an Admin explain how everything worked out and re-post the playoff brackets.

Thanks.

Yea, that's what I thought Reign's post above states. The top 2 teams in each division play each other to decide the division champ. Then the 2 division champs within each conference play each other to determine a conference champ. The 2 conference champs play for the championship.

So these are the matchups for round one:

D2D v HK
CAG v WS
d v THC
20ID v CKB

I'm assuming we play Round 1 this Thursday on Market Garden.
Matches will be posted by tonight.

Contact procedures are the same - match comms.
Time and day? Same as usual.

Sounds good. Glad we clarified that good luck to everyone.
CkB never switched divisions. Not sure where that is coming from. At any rate, we are out per Polaris
hmmm, I tried to find the post but I thought someone had said the playoffs would be run with Team #1 from Alpha Division playing #2 from Beta and visa versa.

Doesn't really matter, this first season seems to be a lot of growing pains with issues dealing with Maps, Patches and teams joining and dropping mid-season.

Once we get these bugs out of the system, I honestly think that the TWL will end up the better place to compete. I really do prefer this website to the messy CAL one. :p
Yea CkB did switch after week 3 as I recall

As always, we'll do our best against the 20ID Juggernaut...

We've played them 3 times in match play already (1 in TWL, 2 in CAL). Had fun each time.

Hope we give you guys a GG!
