You know... it seems like time just went by so fast. I remember installing my first PC game (BF1942), and... well words cannot explain what this game really ment to me. Anyways I will spare all of you the details of how BF1942 was apart of my life, but I would like to share a little about it.
For those of you who do not know of me, I was once [101stAir]Bull aka the owner of Ghetto Berlin. While I was in [101stAir] we used to play on this one server called Cookies Berlin. Between the lagg issues, nade spamming, and pub nubs messing things up, we really could not work on our Infantry skills. So one day a few members put there heads together, and said we should have a server where we could practice our skills, and have fun at it too. After many many many months of map making, & fine tuning... Ghetto Berlin was born. Here was a server where not only could you practice your infantry skills without nade spamming, but play without glitchers in the wall.
Man little did we know how popular the server was to become, at times it was too much for me to deal with. Some of you might not realize but Ghetto Berlin has been up for about 5 years now. I have talked to so many different people in the gamming community about the server, and made alot of friends here in the states, and even over seas. I could sit here for hours with so many stories to tell.
You know over the years... there were certain things I would never allow as far as Ghetto Berlin went. The main thing I wanted though was for the whole Bf1942 community to have somewhere to play.. have fun... and enjoy the game. As time went on.. and even when the game started to die out.. you always knew Ghetto Berlin was there. Not to many other servers can say the same IMO.
I realize that I might have made some of you mad or pissed off at times, but I honeslty had nothing but true intentions on running a server so that everyone could enjoy. So I appologize if I have... and I hold no grudges against any of you I have.
Well as you all know all things come to an end at sometime or another. I want to let you all know this is not a plea or a cry for help. If any of you know me... I really dont need your $$$$, as a matter of fact so that you all know, up untill today I have never taken 1 cent from anyone, as far as donations went for running the server. it is clear though even with donations here and there... I will not be able to pay for that server anymore. I know what you are thinking... jeesh how much can Ghetto Berlin really cost. Well so that you all have an idea Ghetto Berlin is hosted off a dedicated box... wich cost $3100.00 to run a year. So 5 years later.. well you can do the math.
Well after talking to my admins who have been running it for the past months, I have really have no other choice but to shut Ghetto Berlin down. I really wish there was another way.. but I have exhausted all my resources. In short I would like to thank everyone who has helped run it, maintain it, and made it possible to keep it up for so long. I hope that eveyone who played on it at one time or another had fun, and was able to laugh becasue something funny happened. To me thats what it's all about... playing games, and being able to laugh every now and then!
