Thanks Psi!
if one team doesn't chose within 48 hours can't the decision be defaulted to the other team (and then if they don't pick one, then defending team starts defense)

Excellent tool. Adds a bit of flavor so to speak. I would also have to agree on the 48hrs after match acceptance for the team to pick the side that they are going to start on. I'm scheduled for a 2v2, selected the side, no bugs, and it worked perfectly.

I do have one quick question here, or maybe it's not a question but I'm just trying to make sure I clearly understand this rule. It's not posted in the general rule area for the 2v2 so I am going to make sure I get it correctly.

If the Defending Team does NOT post their side preferance within 48 hrs after match acceptance, including the day/time, then it goes back to default which is the Defending Team does "D" for the first 6 rounds?

Yup, so if the defending doesn't choose. They lose their right to and play as defense.
did I read it wrong, or doesnt it say that the defending team loses it right to "assault" first? If you dont pick, you get to defend first by default. Or am I misinterpreting this?

Logically, yes. By the rules, no,because you do have the option to choose but you forfeit it. Which means the challenger ends up with the option. If neither team chooses then it goes to defender defends and challenger assaults.

Ok, but where is the rule regarding the time limit for side selection? I've looked the rules over carefully and still can't find it.

Just so everyone is clear... You are currently testing the 'selection option' on the 2v2. Is this rule IN EFFECT for all ladders as of now ? Based on your posts, it appears that it is currently in effect for all ladders, you are just testing the mechanism by which it will work on the 2v2. Please clarify whether all ladders need to report this info in match comms until it is fully implemented. Thanks

Yes, it was a test. All I really wanted was a 'yes/no it does/doesn't work'.

I assume it's working so I will add it to the oter ladders today.

Yes, the info needs to be reported in match comms for teh other ladders till its fully intergrated

Thank you kind sir
actually, why add a new rule, when if challanged you should play on defense anyway. I mean, you are being attacked, therefore you should be defense, and if you survive that then go to offense. Seems to me like a rule that doesn't need to be. Makes for bigger government, and no more....
Besides, if you do add a rule, you should update the rules page, even if you are just trying it out, some of us have lives and don't surf every forum we are members of. Or at least send an email to inform the squads of the change..
So you have time to read the rules every week but not the stickies on the forum?
The rules should be amended to show this, as most new teams are completely unaware of the change...

This has been a rule for awhile now. Only thing new is the menu selection that psicotic put in.

The challanged team will choose which side they play first.

Direct quote from the rules, even with psi's type-o

When it was announced that a new set of rules have been drafted and posted, this was one of the new rules. It was part of the revamped rules, it wasn't snuck in there by any means.

You know that and I know that, but the new challengedteams do not understand that they need to choose their side within 48 hours from the map choice or they lose the selection to the challenging team... The rules do not state that, unless I am mistaken.

This amendment was originally suggested when the old issue of what side is defence on mountain ambush came up yet again . Many people felt Ambush should be defense as it plays that way more, even though technically speaking you are assault. Instead of saying on this map, this side goes first always, we gave you the option. Now which side is which on Mountain Ambush and any other map is a non-issue.

I misunderstood, I thought you meant the choose side rule itself, not the 48 hour rule

There's a 48 hr. rule? lol, oh
