Starting today, STAT ANIM will be considered an exploit and is prohibitted. If you don't know what it is, don't bother trying to find out.

So you know- we are able to detect its use theough CDC and have been able to for awhile now. It has not been a very wide spread problem, but does seem to be growing, hence he decision to prohibit its use.

STAT ANIM gives an unfair advantage to the player using it and will be treated as using a hack or cheating. In a word- ***BANNED***

The admins have been busy overhauling the rules and the revised set will be posted within a few days. Until then, it will still be treated as an exploit.

Yes, because it shows all STAT info, including STAT ANIM

good to know, i'll unbind it.

What the hell does STAT ANIM do, and why is Team Warfare taking this idiotic measure in banning the use of a normal in-game function avaliable to everyone without the use of any hacks or system file modifications?

Added: WHAT? I can't use STAT ALL anymore? Gah... I need to use STAT ALL to get network info to check ping and packetloss.

Is STAT FPS banned too?

I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed sooner, I still remember when it was an issue with Quake 1. :x
Okay, after going in game and typing STAT ANIM, I found that it displays NOTHING AT ALL... (Unlike STAT ALL, which DOES display stats) So what the heck made TWL want to ban its use?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[Matt-GCA]
stat anim is auch an obvious exploit and im glad to see the back of it now, Theres no-way anyone can disagree with that

Good call. Happy to see it being punished.
MattGCA: did u go in single player mode or online?
AFAIK it only works in multiplayer.

It's not an explot. The developers of AAO put it there for your use intentionally. It's avaliable to everyone, and it's a command that is officially supported by an unedited, unhacked version of the game.

I tried it online multiplyer - it did NOTHING.

Use Stat net thats what its there for.

Why are two commands being banned when all they do is display information the game's developers wanted you to be able to see?

If the dev's built in a STAT LOCATIONS, that told the location of every OpFor, I could see some people being upset. But my position would be the same... the developers of the game put it there for player's use, and it is not an explot -- all players can use it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[Matt-GCA]
Matt. theres a whole load of ppl here saying how happy they are its now banned. If stat anim did nothing they why would they be so happy. Trust me. its an exploit and is now considered a cheat.
How is it an exploit if the developers of the game intentionally put the command in the game for players to use?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[Matt-GCA]
not all things are there for intentional use. sometimes they are leftovers from DEV tools. if its fair because all can do it then we may as well exploit all known bugs and that aint sportsmanship!. Hey lets all door block while we are at it, we can all do that too

Matt, it is up to the TWL Admins to decide what is an exploit and what isn't.

We have decided this, whatever you say will NOT change it.
Matt, I have to agree with the TWL admins (I'm a brownnose)

It's t3h rul3z... Follow them.

Do you think that STAT ALL was meant to enhance gameplay?
C'mon man!

Sheesh!
i already informed the dev team about this. i spoke to abraxas, and at the moment there is nothing that can be done to remove it. PB might be able to detect it, whether or not that'll happen anytime soon i have no answer.
stop flaming matt
Let me get you all a link to download some hacks so that people can see exactly what it does. The AA community has a right to know!

Irregardless is not a word... well, it is, but technically, it's not a proper word... much like "ain't"

Anyhoo... It was disappointing to see the actions of Matt... as misguided as they were. I hope we all learn from his mistakes, and the potential for trouble his actions may have started.

Funny thing, "ain't" is now considered a word by websters dictionary.

Just thought it should be repeated. I'm bored right now

"Ain't" is another word used in informal speech. If you were to take a college lituerature or writing class. The professor would definitely penalize you for the use of casual words in formal writing.

Webster's started to add casual words into their dictionary because of their frequent usage. Much like the ebonics movement that never came to fruition, some words will never make it into that dictionary. Words like "shiznit", I don't think will make it in... If it did... that WOULD be the shiznit! aight?

As for flaming Matt... I don't think anyone is seriously flaming him.. I'm using the kinder term "misguided" as opposed to "FI" (Friggin Idiot). In fact, I think some of his posts are good for this community because it makes us take a look at ourselves, and question our own ethics.
ok, my " bling bling?" has been missed...

Did anyone else not notice about a month or so ago that they officially added it into the dictionary?

Yup, this old lady and man were talking about it on TV and they kept saying "bling bling." It was pretty effin' funny.
I saw you try to shiz that "bling-bling!" in at the end of that post. Yo! That was wack! but I didn't want to blow the shiznit of that FAT reference you put in. I thought maybe someone gave you some ice and you smoked that shizzle.

Wut up wit dat!??!?!

I agree. He is just trying to help out the community. Besides, I'm sure he'll get plenty of flaming on the official boards, people there LOVE to flame anyone they can.

Do you feel "everybody in the AA:O community has the "right" to download and play with EH?

No.

They deserve to know what it does, however.

We were told during a match today that STAT NET was also banned. Just to make it perfectly clear, can we use STAT NET or can we not?

Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

I see you've been to dictionary.com also

We never said STAT NET. Just STAT ANIM and STAT ALL.

BTW-I have no idea why any one would use STAT ALL any way. You can't see a damn thing with it on

some people just need any advantage they can muster up.
Matt- if you have any questions regarding a cheat it always better to it privately.

Everyone else- stop getting on him. Regardless of his actions, his motives and intentions were for what he considered the best.

** see that- regardless

Okay...

Regarless and Irregardless are BOTH words.

usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Regarless, is obviously better than irregardless. Although they mean the same (ie... flammable/inflamable - both mean the same, but we use flammable to avoid confusion).

Anyway, I've talked enough about this STAT ANIM stuff here. If I keep talking, I'll just have a full inbox of people asiking what it does. (I already got like 10 E-Mails asking.. was ready to create a standard reply lol)
