Even Balance, Inc. the makers of the PunkBuster anti-cheat for America's Army, released version 1.085 of the PunkBuster Client to their PunkBuster Master Servers for update and to their website download page.

In the release notes, Even Balance says: "Starting with this version 1.085, the PB Client now requires the game to be run as the administrator user or equivalent under Windows XP/2K." They say you can see the FAQ for more info at http://www.evenbalance.com

This may explain why so many people are being kicked off servers by PunkBuster, or can't play. If you have a limited access / standard user level account, then you need to get it updated to administrator access to fix this problem. Check control panel and user accounts.

lol....thats funny

now imagine that this game is geared toward young americans.

if you had a 14-17 yr old using your computer....what privs would YOU give them??

that was an interesting decision....

Is there some way to modify my system configuration to be an administrator equivalent from PunkBuster's perspective?

Yes (under Win XP Pro or Win 2K). This can be accomplished by setting certain privileges for the user that will run the game. To do this, first temporarily log in as an Administrator. Then go to Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Local Security Policy. This will open up the Local Security setting window. Expand the Local Policies folder and select User Rights Assignment. This will bring up a list of security settings for the computer. You will need to add the user that will be launching the game to have the following privileges. If the user is logged in while making changes, the user must be logged out and back in for the changes to take effect.

* Debug Programs
* Load and unload device drivers
* Manage auditing and security log
* Modify Firmware environment values
* Profile Single Process

This is done by double clicking on the setting and then the "Add User or Group" button. You can either type the user or group name into the field or click on advanced to select from a list. If you select advanced, you may need to click on the "Object Types" button and make sure all 3 boxes are checked. Then click "OK". Click on the "Find Now" button to generate a full list of all users and groups on the system. Highlight the user you want to add the rights to and click "OK". Keep clicking "OK" untill you are back at the Local Security Settings window. Repeat this process for the rest of the list. That user will now be able to play on PB servers without getting kicked for "Inadequate O/S Privileges".

Yeah, that works too.

Easiest way is to just set the account as adminstrator though.

As for it kicking people WITH admin rights... PB error?

Maybe you don't have all the rights listed. Maybe its not the OS kick, maybe its No Flow, which also happens to be kicking alot lately.
All i got to say: WTF pb?

lol... PB has bugs whenever we get a new version. If people follow Even Balance's instructions, I think problems will go away within a week or two.

As per the PB FAQ "Why does PunkBuster now require players to run the game as an administrator under WinXP/2K?

Because some cheats/hacks cannot be detected otherwise."

Yeah, alot of them were attempting to hide in different profiles and avoid detection that way.
I am the only admin on my PC and i have manualy updated PB.. and its still kicking me!
does anyone have a solution yet for ppl who are getting kicked that HAVE full admin rights?
1) Doublecheck and see if you have admin rights. If not, then you'll want to change that.

2) Try that solution that was posted.

3) If it still kicks you, send off an E-mail to Even Balance, Inc. about it, as there might be a problem with PunkBuster.

done done and done.... still cant play
All you'd really need to do is have the admin set the properties on the executable for AA, select the Run As option and they could put in the admin information.

Speaking from a parental perspective if you didn't want to give your 16 year old admin rights over the machine you could have that option to where the game itself pretends to have admin priveledge. Should eliminate the controversy.
w00t day 2 of no americas army/BF1942/wolfenstien... lol still no help with this... ive read atleast 10 different posts on here, tracker and AA.com forums and no1 has an answer... w00t PB sucks
Its kicking me for this thing, but we only have 1 account on our computer and its an adminstrative one
Theres no Local Security option in my administrative tools folder 0_o
yeah, the report on how to fix it released by even balance only helps people who use XP pro... but people who have XP home, we're still waiting
omghai2uall... been a long time since I've posted here.

This issue (as well as others) is pretty rampant in the support channel. I have been working my ass off on it, and the admin bug, alot... and, unfourtunatly, still have much to research. Our PB Staff member has not been around since the release, so its been tough. The only possibilities here are PB, or Microcrap. I have a guineapig who is going to reinstall Windows over this (tomorrow maybe), and hope to find something good from it.
i have done EVERYTHING! This is so frustrating!
I am the admin on my comp. I update pb manually. I ran cleaner.exe. I downladed latest pb files. I was told to delete armyops.ini file and .dll file , and i did. I even deleted 2.0 and the patch and downloaded the full 2.1 version, which took forever! The soultion that pb has for this problem is for 2K and WinXP Pro users. Im running on a PC WinXP HomeEd operating system.

At times when i log into a pb enabled server, i get the message "PB Client: O/S Exception Notice."
Then i get excited cuz i think 'Finally i wont get kicked!'
But then 20 secs later, i get booted for "inadequate o/s privilages."

Damn PB cheap sh!t. I was perfectly happy with 2.0a.
