Dedicated Server Issues, any Ideas?

As of late I've had some strange things happening with my server ![BDE]East Coast Destruction

The server is as follows
XP2000+ With a Swiftech MCX462+ and Antec Server Tower full of case fans, heat is not an issue.
512meg PC2700
40gig ata133 HD
XP Pro/NTFS
Roadrunner Cable Connection 2700kbits down and 380 up.
All drivers and software are up to date, with all patches, fixes and windows updates.
In the background it is running PC AnywhereXP and Teamspeak RC2 Server
I also use the latest version of EvilBot for administration. I do not use evilbots cycle list, I use the mercs NFM editor. This still happens when evilbot isn't running anyway.

At random times the launch button will disappear, it's seems to disappear more often when the server is full rather than having just a couple people in it. Other times it will cycle a couple of maps and then just drop out of the cycle list and sit on Alpine (the first map in the game list) for eternity. And also sometimes for no apparent reason the server will just up and restart mercs, dumping everyone out of the game. I happened to notice it happen more than a couple times on manorhouse, so I removed that map from the cycle list, things seem better, but it still stumbles randomly. Anyone else have these problems, and more importantly, anyone have a fix for them? Or a list of maps that are no good to run on a dedicated cycle cause they fuck it all up? I know xp has it's bugs, and If noone here can get me some good advice on how to fix it I'm gonna have to put win2k on the server, and make it look plain and ugly, but hopefully stable and fun.

I tried running Knights of Davion T-1 on XP a while back and I found it to be completely unstable, doing exactly what you describe. Randomly , jsut killing the server for no reason. I tweaked adn tested everything, and never did find the answer. To resolve it, I reverted to Win2K server and Knights of Davion is stable, fast and rock solid.
Well now that I know it's not just me.......has anyone seen my Win2k Server cd?? I will keep you posted to see if that fixes my problem as well, though I'm sure it will fix that and more. No matter what anyone says about xp 2k is still the best OS M$ has ever made, I just wish it came with nice curtains like XP does.
Run comms on someone elses server~ it sucks the life out of yours~ make a clan member step up and do it~ your running the server after all

instead of pc anywhere try vnc.
downlaod it here:
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
and its free!

its smaller and doesnt take over your pc~

dont run an antivirus in the back ground~ just do a scan every other day or so, but shut off the memory resident part of your virus scanner

win2k worked better than xp for me~ though lots of people use xp with no problem~ I just like win2k better

I had cable before, and all i can say about it is no matter what speed they say you get, its always lower during peak hours of the day~

im on dsl now, and even though some people still cry lag once in a while, the servers full everyday~ so I must be doing something right

hope this helps!

DOH ~ forgot something~
I couldnt see the launch buttons the first time I ran the server either, but I changed my desktop settings to 1024 X 768 instead of 800 X 600, and the buttons show up every time now

LOL~ I just realized how much time I spend doing all this crap!

Who cares about curtains if the roof leaks?
LOL

The roof doesn't leak, Bill just keeps overfowing the upstairs toilet.

XP has ran fine for me before, but then other times it wouldn't, and it was sporadic, it would be fine for 2 days, then the third day I couldn't get it to do anything right. The res on the server is 1024x768.

Thanks for the link Jimi. I used to have that proggy and somehow I lost it. I use to use it to admin my server (not MW) before I got a KVM switch, and I have never had any AV software installed on the server to slow it down. Those bandwidth numbers are averages I gathered myself doing bandwidth tests during peak hours, so it's more than enough to host comms and the server, strange part is comms does seem to lag it up a bit when it's on the server, but I also have another comms on a different comp as a backup and the server runs fine with it there. I tried promoting an "adopt a bit" program in the clan to get me more bandwidth, but it didn't have any takers......cheap asses

I had lag issues so bad when I was ruuning comms and win 32 dedicated server that I had to turn it off~
Do a cpu test while running comms and it gives even a 2000 mhz chip a workout

You know thats really odd since I have used the task manager to view cpu/memory usage, and cpu usage is minimal, around 10%..... what are you using to test cpu usage?
I'm with you on this one Kamikaze...Some of my guys said that all of a sudden my dedicated was double kicking peeps off....I run a 4port linksys 1.4 1 gig ram....Dont know why its acting up...

I used task manager as well, but with 12 or 13 people on roger wilco, it still managed to suck the life out of the CPU enough to cause skipping across the maps

what kind of cpu numbers were you pulling when it was laggin up the maps?

I put win2k Server on my dedicated and everything is great. Works top notch with no problems, even the install and configuring when smooth. I can now use evilbots mapcycle lists so players can vote to change maps, vote to start them and stop them. Previously trying to use those cycle lists the launch button would disappear after the 1st drop almost every time. I have yet to test comms on it. It shows perfomance levels about the same 8%cpu with a server full of 18 people. It was full this morning when I woke up and it was full when I got home from work and it's still full, and not a glitch reported, and you bet i've been asking I think 2k is the way to go for dedicated servers, I havent had an ounce of trouble with it.
