I don't recall them claiming to know it first or to have invented it.. just said they had been using it for awhile and wanted to share. I commend them for wanting to let others know about this technique instead of trying to horde it to themselves.

I think many in the community thank you and appreciate the knowledge you are sharing. I'm sure there are alot of players who never knew about this, the only downside is now they might become even stronger competition. LOL

Actually I should give props to -V-ooDoo for showing me this technique a little while back. It's been quite helpfull in devising new escape routes and such. hehehe

Logan, I never claimed to have invented the technique, but we do think that it is time for those teams that dont know about it to be aware.

Remember that some times other teams like to share just for the sake of being helpful and furthering the community.

It's nice that Valar is trying to help out the community and boost their competition. Don't worry about Dsbr-Logan
...it's posts like these that belittle their clan from ever being truly respectable in my mind.

You can also do 'flooring'. If you jump and land on an angled surface and jump as you hit it, you'll be launched similar to how you are when you roof.

Flooring is also a technique but its very hard to do. Its almost impossible to launch exactly how you want and often times it lands you in a bad situation

I respect Hell's Elite Legions also..but I am not part of that clan, I switched names..and am now part of SofD. I've sent an email to Tristen about switching my name or deleting my old [HEL] account..but no response as of yet. But I am NO LONGER in HEL.

How do you play this demo? I assumed i could drop it the /base folder and play it from the demo player in jk2, but that dont work.

I think you need to make a folder called recordings, or just make a demo of your own first and it will make one fore you

I think you need to put it in $JK2_GameData/base/Demos for it to see it. Then you should be able to choose it.

If you have not recorded a demo, then you must make a GameData/base/Demos folder.


This demo works with only the 1.03 patch.

Not really. Roofing involves hitting the ceiling, hence, "ROOFing" while skiing involves the ground.

Team Valor probably is the first team to publicaly release this technique. I saw it in action myself when we played them. Very Very cool technique. Works well and its time for all the other teams to adapt and catch up!

I mentioned nothing of ski'n but I prefer roofing and flooring as ski'n in Tribes seemed more like ski'n because of the complex terrain. Another thing to do is roll off a ledge high enough so that you end hte roll before you hit the ground. Hit jump before you touch the ground and away you go!

Nanarchy there is no such thing as "skiiing" or "flooring" in the q3 engine. i watched your demos and that is called strafe jumping, although its possible to go MUCH faster than you were.

Just for the record, Valar and Rx were doing this in the first match we played. If I'm not mistaken it was the 3rd CTF match played on the ladder. It's nothing new, it's very cool that Valar is passing it around for that teams the didn't discover it on their own. We always called it skiing, even off the roof.

Ah, I guess if they took force jump out then you could still do it? It's done by strafe jumping but I think if you compare strafe jumping in jkii to q3 strafe jumping, there might be a tiny little difference. Therefor requiring a new definition eh.
