Here is some random info.

a) Server.cfg - you need one to run a dedicated server well. Solution: make one - you can have mine that I use on Cheater's Wayside.

//PUBLIC INFO WILL BE DISPLAYED IN SERVER BROWSERS SETS= PUBLIC INFO
seta sv_hostname "^3Cheater's Wayside CTF ^7&^6 Saber TFFA"
seta g_motd "Welcome to the Wayside. Enjoy your stay!"
sets "Administrator" "Cheater"
sets "Clan" "]CkB[ Cabal kaBob"
//sets "Connection" "OC-48"
//sets "CPU" "Dual P3-800"
//sets "Email" "cheater@cheaterswayside.com"
//sets "Hosted By" "Good guys and stuff"
sets "IRC" "irc.dynamix.com"
//sets "Location" "North Pole"
sets "Plug" "Cheater's Wayside"
sets "URL" "http://www.cheaterswayside.org"

//Use this if you don't have a manual map rotation at all.
//g_automapcycle 1

seta sv_maxRate "9000"
seta sv_maxclients "24"

seta g_needpass "0"
seta g_password ""
seta sv_privateclients "8"
seta sv_privatepassword "tribalwar"

g_teamforcebalance 1

seta sv_floodProtect "1"

seta rconpassword "adminpasshere"

seta g_allowVote "1"

//execs custom map rotation
exec jk2maps.cfg
map vstr d1

That is the CFG I use on the Wayside. Basic but works well.

On to the maps CFG that is linked at the bottom... in RTCW i have it set to report remaining rounds and next map, you can do that in this game too but i havnt set that up yet, ehre is what I have so far for a CTF and TFFA combo rotation:

//Wayside JK2 Server Map Rotation - Both CTF and TDM

set d1 "set g_gametype 7 ; maxfrags 0 ; g_weapondisable 0 ; map ctf_bespin ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 5 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_ns_hideout ;set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 7 ; maxfrags 0 ; g_weapondisable 0 ; map ctf_imperial ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 5 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_bespin ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 5 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_raven ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 7 ; maxfrags 0 ; g_weapondisable 0 ; map ctf_ns_strets ; set nextmap vstr d7"
set d7 "set g_gametype 5 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weaponDisable 65531 ; map ffa_deathstar ; set nextmap vstr d8"
set d8 "set g_gametype 7 ; maxfrags 0 ; g_weapondisable 0 ; map ctf_yavin ; set nextmap vstr d9"
set d9 "set g_gametype 5 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_imperial ; set nextmap vstr d1"

//Included Maps:
//duel_bay
//duel_carbon
//duel_jedi
//duel_pit
//ffa_bespin
//ffa_deathstar
//ffa_imperial
//ffa_ns_hideout
//ffa_ns_streets
//ffa_raven
//ffa_yavin
//ctf_bespin
//ctf_imperial
//ctf_ns_streets
//ctf_yavin

//Gametypes and what they mean.
//g_gametype:
//0=Free For All
//1=Holocron
//2=Jedi Master
//3=Duel
//5=Team Free For All
//7=Capture the Flag
//8=Capture the Ysalimari

//Weapondisable info
//g_weapondisable 0 enables all weapons
//g_weapondisable 65531 disables all but the saber which i have enabled in TFFA maps only

More random info:

g_weaponDisable:
Nothing is disabled if set to zero. Lightsaber only if set to 65531. The number is the total of a bitfield with 16 bits, each bit representing a weapon.

g_duelWeaponDisable:
Same as above, but only when playing Duel. This is separate because we encourage Duel mode to be saber-only.

g_forcePowerDisable:
Nothing is disabled if set to zero. All force powers are disabled if set to 32767. The number is the total of a bitfield with 15 bits, each bit representing a force power.

g_forceBasedTeams:
If set to 1, then the red team must use the dark side, the blue team must use the light side.

g_maxForceRank:
Number from 0 to 7, going from Initiate to Jedi Master. The higher the rank, the more points to spend on powers.

g_maxHolocronCarry:
Defaults to 3, indicates the number of holocrons that a player can carry in Holocron mode.

g_privateDuel:
If set to 1, then the "engage_duel" key is functional in FFA and Holocron games. Sort of an "unadvertised command", you can brandish your lightsaber, target an enemy and press the key. If he receives the message and presses his engage_duel key, then you are isolated from other combatants and must duel to the death. Saber only, no force powers other than jump. This is the only time saberlock is operational in FFA or Holocron. The winner gets his health replenished and bragging rights.

g_saberLock:
If set to 1, allows saber locking while playing Duel or while in a private duel.

g_friendlySaber:
If set to 1, then team members can be hit by sabers that are idle (e.g. if you walk into a friend). It doesn't affect if the saber will hit players while swinging. Whether it does damage or not is determined by g_friendlyFire.

Many of the rest are Q3 standard.

ok, not really a tutorial but useful random info

oh, the shortcut:

"DJedi Knight 2\gamedata\jk2mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set com_hunkmegs 128 +exec server.cfg ++set net_port 27970

hope it helps someone

Ty, how do you join a game when

seta sv_privateclients "8"
seta sv_privatepassword "tribalwar"

is set so that you use a private spot and not a public?
JKII port #'s?
28070

nefilm..first type in the pw, then click join.
heres something thats probobly been asked before:
im behind a firewall(lynksys router); how do I make one of these servers that is visible to those outside of my LAN?

Click the "password" button on the join server page, enter "tribalwar" then join the server. Thats all. Oh, and I *think* it doesn't delete the password after you join, so when you next join another server you'll have to delete the password 1st.
there is also a \privatepassword variable i believe.

if you have a g_password set and a privatepassword i think privatepw will let you join a reserved slot... but i am not sure

its either privatepassword or reservedpassword
Ty thx alot!
I can't get the map rotation to work though, and I've got it
setup nearly identical to yours. Heres my map.cfg:

set d1 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ctf_bespin ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_ns_hideout ;set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_bespin ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ffa_ns_hideout ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weaponDisable 65531 ; map ffa_deathstar ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 0 ; maxfrags 50 ; g_weapondisable 65531 ; map ctf_yavin ; set nextmap vstr d1"

And heres where it is called in the server.cfg:

//Allow MapCycling
exec jk2maps.cfg
map vstr d1

any ideas?
sry i can't get it to fit better

you have "set d1", "set d2" etc etc

you need to change it to "set vstr d1" "set vstr d2" etc etc
ahhhh ok, thx
Awesome work ty. We got a rotation working now on the 4 main CTF maps and added the new 3 ones but left off rotation .. (most pub peeps dont dl the new maps !! sigh)..

Anyways... I had a problem a while back with recording demos. On our server, when I type "record test", it says g_synchronousclient (sp) is set to 0 must be 1.

If I set that variable to 1 then just about everyone on the server notices a lag! big time!.

But then I can record demos. For now with the lag problem I just leave that turned off.

Is there a way to fix the lag problem or does it lag like that no matter what when you enable the recording?
I was hope'n I missed something.

G_synchronousclients needs to be set to 1 on your client machine. After that, start your demo recording and turn it back off. It'll work just fine. If you leave it on you'll just get lag and it won't be worth it. Hope that helps.

Ahhhh.. you know what it said something about server needs it set when you have it set to 0 and server is set to 0. But if server is set to 1 then everyone can record even if client is 0. But this causes the lag. I set it to 0. Tried what you said and set client only. Worked! No lag for everyone else.

However, it still lags for me I need a new cpu !
Did you set it back to 0 right after you started recording?
whew, Ty when you said "by me" I thought you were going somewhere. I'm just relieved I was mistaken. <3
OMG, LOL! Thats it..

As soon as I turn it back off, no more lag. Who at raven designed that little feature? LOL. Oh well.. Thanks! Finally I can record without lag! Whoooot!

This is one of those Q3A features that really want's raven's fault as far as I know. I got these commands from a RtCW forum.
Yeah... JK2's downfall is that they based it on Q3A..

I hope I didnt piss anyone off by saying that

hehe
Hi,

I run my server with it playing CTF, FF on, and voting disabled. We have voting disabled so that people can't change the game type, but this makes it so they can't kick the TK's.

Is there a way to disable certain votes, and enable others? Or is there another solution for this?
I too am looking for this feature but haven't found anything. Rage, is this possible to put in your JK2++ mod? Something where you can limit what type of public votes are allowed. In my case, I want to disallow changing the gametype so that it is always CTF.

Thanks,
Mark
Rage,

I think I would actually be better for you to try and create an admin bot. That way kussing and Team Killing can be taken care of quickly.
i'm trying to remove a password with rcon and it isn't working. can someone please help me by giving the proper command. I tried everything I saw in Tysoft's post.
If you mean the join password this is how I do it every time and I dont mess with the other variables.

Create a join password:
"\rcon g_password myjoinpassword"

Remove join password:
"\rcon g_password none"

This commands to remove sets all the other vars up and then immediatelly allows peeps to join without pw.

I have also experienced that adding a password does not immediately remove peeps from server but rather it does not allow them to join. As soon as the map restarts (even after warmup) it will drop the peeps who do not have thier passwords set. This forces them to rejoin with password.

Just those two simple commands have worked flawlessly for me.
thanks man, I really apreiciate it, it worked perfect
