CORSAIR PC3200 512MB 333mhz

OR

PC2700 768MB 400mhz

I am gonna buy a stick of 512 and I don't exactly know which way would be the best to go. Either add more PC 2700 or step up a bit and buy PC3200. The price difference is 8 bucks.

My mobo supports up to PC3200 at 333mhz but the ram is 400mhz

Are you planning on upgrading your mobo anytime soon?

The pc3200 would give you a bit of lee-way in that regard.

Atm, I really don't see much of a need to go beyond 512mb...depends on what you use it for. If you're just gaming and word processing, 512 is more than plenty. If you're planning on running Photoshop, flash, and premiere all at the same time, then maybe...

But I use photoshop, flash, etc with 512mb of corsair's PC3500 and don't have any problems so long as I don't have more than 2 of them open at a time...

Besides, it's alot easier to add in another 256mb stick of the PC3200 in a couple months if you feel you need more then to replace all your PC2700 w/ PC3200....

FTP client, photoshop, trillian, teamspeak, 4 browsers at times twice that, edit plus and winamp is what i normally run.

Here are my specs:

Athlon XP 2600+
Epox 8rda+
512mb PC 3500 Corsair XMS
WD 80gig 7200rpm 8mb cache

I only have the ram running at 333mhz..

I have no problem alt-tabbing between T2 and flash with trillian, opera, and teamspeak running in the background.

Dunno what the rest of your specs are though..

512 is not more than plenty, it's enough. Exactly one year ago was when 512 was more than enough, now that ram has gone down in price the new standard for enthusiasts is easily 1GB. The more ram the better, generally you wont notice any increase in performance do to "faster" ram unless your CPU is in desparate need of more raw memory bandwidth.
Athlon XP 2000+
40 GB HD
256 PC2700 ram at 333mhz
asus a7v8x-x

my suggestions, for what it's worth:

buy *a* stick of 3200 and *start* phasing out your pc2700. You can mix and match, its just that, while the pc2700 is in your mobo, all your 3200 ram will run at the same speed as 2700. So you'll enjoy the increase in memory, but not bandwidth.
okay, but i was told you can't mix ram.

512MB just for peeps info is MINIMUM for BF1942 to load efficiently, and HD should be 7200rpm.

Just so ya know. THats why I have a stick of 512 coming.

Okay screw it. I'm not gonna mix. If I get 3200 which I think I might because more people are saying to go with that plus it gives me a start on grabbing better ram rather than sticking to PC2700. I'll jus sell the PC2700 stick

Thanks guys

If you have a mobo with nforce2 chipset such as the asus a7n8x deluxe, then it is better that you buy at least two sticks of ram.. if you want 512 total.. get two matched pair corsair low latency 256 pc2700 or 3200.. same goes for the gig.. get two 512 matched pair corsair xms low latency chips. The reasoning behind this is so you can take advantage of the dual memory pipe that nforce2 offers. one stick equals back and forth writing and reading. two sticks equals one can be writing while the other one is reading which = double the speed almost in this situation.
i have 2 sticks of 512

And i max teh ever lovin shit out of it. I want to get another gig.
When summer hits us, u guys are gonna help me build a new comp...right? Like i need help with mobos mostly.

haven't done it myself, but have read multiple times that mixing pc2700 and pc3200 ain't a problem, it'll just keep all ram at the speed of pc2700. maybe someone techie can fill us in here.
so i should be buying 3200 from now on? What about 3700? or is that not for awhil;e?
