Ok, due to popular demand (and the failing of the Conquest League signups), lets discuss a infantry only ladder/league idea.

I want suggestions on ?vs?, as in 5vs5 or 6vs6 etc.

I want suggestions on map choices.

I also want suggstions on weapons. This meaning, do you think mortars, .50 cal (sniper) and .50 cal MMG should be allowed for us? For that matter, RPG's as well. Some of you are deadly with the RPG at a fairly lenghty distance.

Discuss. Myself and Grassy will monitor the discussion closely.

I'm game and I fully support the idea of a 5v5 infantry ladder.
i would say anything is go... cept not allowed to use vehicles to kill ... maybe still use humvee for moving people only? what about c4 camping ? sniping may not be a good idea, cus it would just be a snipe war instead of team tactics.
Sounds cool since I'm an infantry guy myself. I'd love to see 6v6 matches, as that would allow for even squad distribution (2 groups of 3 Players, or 3 groups of 2 etc... etc...)
I'd say every weapon is fair game, I know people don't like the VSS, so if you take away the VSS from op you're gonna have to take away the Car-15 for Coal., seeing as how you can't take from one side without giving something back somehow or taking something away from the otherside. It's possible to allow for a modded server where the AKS-74U is put in for the VSS. I myself enjoy the VSS, just not when it's used against me =P. As for the sniping bit...one guy sniping in the hills is one guy not defending a flag.
Maps should be also infantry based, since it's an infantry league. I'd say LostVillage and Basrah Nights are the two major canidates. There's a way to mod out vehicles such as light armour, and heavy armour (Bradley, BMP, T72 etc...) from maps using server settings, that would open up more maps, like Basrah's Edge, Stalingrad, and Berlin. I would say vehicles such as the DPV, Humvee etc... are acceptable since it's easy to take them out with infantry and doesn't heavily detract from gameplay.
C4 can be an issue, mortars can be an issue, sniping can be an issue (especially the .50 cal) and mounted machine guns can be an issue.

I feel no vehicles whatsoever is a good rule, the last thing you need is someone to "accidently" get a roadkill score, that would open up a can of worms accident or not.

Are you guys thinking conquest for this, or TDM? How about some CoOp. (that is a joke, dont even think about it)

If we go pure infantry (ground pound only, no use of vehicles whatsoever) you will need smaller maps. Berlin, Stalingrad, Bedge and Bnights... what else? Lost Village is a mute point, unless it is the one map that we allow use of choppers on, which could be done I suppose (god I love that map, and would hate to see it not in rotation).

Come on guys, give me details, you are helping make your next ladder here.
just remember, Lostvillage and TDM are not the best of friends
what if u only use transport vehicles like the little bird and the humvee with out 50 or tow... DPV with same... if some one really wants to try and go around and " run people over" i dont think it would be a issuse ..since they will probably get c4'd or RPG'd ... and 1 hit can take most of those vehicles out ... so they are only for transport only.
BTW it would suck to have to run around the lake in LV .... what if we gave the US a flag to start on the other side? like the factory or somin ...(more modded maps )
i think even 6 on 6 or higher would be good.
the main question i have is: would it be possible to mod some maps to:
1. change number of flags and/or where those flags are (thus reducing map size)
2. change vehicles to transport only

there are a couple of people who do good map mods (one on the dub team) - and i'm sure they would be willing to make some alterations.
would teams be willing to play on modded maps for a ladder? because for me, playing on standard maps just isn't much different from what we do now - only it would be with less people.
I'd be willing to entertain mod'd maps, for vehicle alteration (can you remove the guns from the blackhawk and humvees?), as well as spawn points (like on LV, give coalition the factory as a noncapturable).

Keep it rolling, this is what will set us apart from other infantry ladders. The vanilla BF guys will all go "damn, they got a sweet ladder in DC".

you could remove the blackhawks altogether and make the helis the gunless littlebirds. you could also remove humvees and give only trucks and cars (civilian).
i'll ask our resident mod guy about starting spawn location changes. if that is possible - it would open up other maps as well. you could have a large map changed so that the start points and flags would be in different locations utilizing only half (or less) of the map - just make it an interesting geographical or urban area.
Sounds like it might be easy enough to make a simple "map pack" for this. I'd like to keep it all conquest for simplicity, so we can still go by ticket count and not rounds for each map.

It almost sounds like a good idea to remove all ammo boxes as well. That would stop any 'nade spamming.

I'd like to see 6v6 personally... Squadgames currently has a 4v4 ladder but thats way to small.

I agree with the no vehicle rule... whats the point of having an infantry only match if ppl are running around in the vehicles. I think the only things that should be usable are the transport helos (if you could mod a map to take the guns off the helos that would be great.) I'm not sure about using the cars/trucks... i don't see a problem with them atm but you never know.

As far as weapons go i don't really see mortars or .50 cals to be a problem, but that could always change if we get this league/ladder up and running and we got some major whores playing =p.

Maps I would like to see are: Berlin, Basrahs Edge, Nights, Stalingrad, Bocage(?), Kharkov(?), Lost Village, Sea Rigs, Ishallah Valley(?)... Maybe Docks too but i dunno i've never played it in a match before lol.
awwww come'on... nade spamming is so much fun =p.

Also, i think conquest is the way to go for this ladder... maybe have one map both sides, or even 2 maps both sides but that might get a little long. I know i'm asking to get flamed here but i've always liked STA match style, one map both sides (time limit) and total tickets wins it. CAL format is nice as well, but can get a little long with no time limit.

Server Side Mods for those that don't know are mods to the server maps only. Client machines do not need to download map packs prior to joining maps.

What can be done server side.

It would be possible to swap the Op Specs Ops Kit to the kit with AK and not VSS, while the Co could still retain the CAR.

It would be possible to remove weapon kits altogether. For example you could change the Support weapon kit so that it was the assualt kit. You would still be able to select Support but would spawn with the assualt kit.

50 cal snipers rifles could be removed completely

Vehicles could easily be swapped for unarmed vehicles, for example all Hummers and BRDMs could be swapped to the Lada (Civilian car) or Pickup (Although the pickup only holds 2 people seated)

Choppers could be swapped with the Unarmed versions.

I have not tried swapping flags. For example Making a flag start Blue instead of grey but I think it is possible and it would not be difficult to do it, it would just require a little testing to verify that it works server side.

On large maps flags could be moved so that they are closer together. Although Buildings, sandbags, fences, firstaid cabinets, and Ammo crates and the like can not be moved.

A server map pack could be created such that the files would all have _001 after the name and in most cases the file size would only be about 20 kb per map. To modify a server you would upload the maps and when finshed with the maps delete all _001 files and server would be back to normal. Clients would not need to download the map pack.

If you want expert map modding advice I noticed that Toolazy2p is a TWL member and he has a great web site dedicated to server side mods.

nice job willard p. clawstein. may you not zap, prunk, crunk, pow or otherwise injur yourself with your own inventions.
We surely would be interested and promote it fo sure!. A 8vs8 with a min of 6 might work good cause you can add larger maps like LV and SeaRigs.

Keep it simple at first with maps being vanilla. Light Vehicles and Little Birds can only be used for transport and that should would be the only rule. If someone does a good mod then we will vote on whether to replace.

Starting Maps: Lost Village, Basrah Edge, Basrah Nights, Berlin, Stalingrad, Sea Rigs, Kursk and ?.

Hell of fun as we already play in this in a similar format with 4vs4 @ SG. Seems though even on Berlin or Stalingrad that 4 just isn't enough.
Never really thought of Kursk , but I think that map would work just fine
As far as using vehicles goes, I say no vehicles whatsoever. Whatever maps are chosen make sure they are for infantry/small, i.e. bedge, bnights. etc.

Getting inside any vehicle would be deemed illiegal. The only thing you could press E to get in would be stationary machine guns and that's it.

In other news, DC Final will be having some infantry maps, so they could be added to the map list, mainly bridge and al nas. There should also be a working a battleaxe
edit LV so that US gets uncapturable factory starting point, oppo gets their usual and start the map with the other 4 flags grey, so that US doesn't start the match getting spawn camped?
in the BF world.. they have a mod called BFPro... it addresses these very issues. Main thing it does, balance the maps. So i'd say absolutely on the generate a server side map pack that balances out the selected maps..

no vehicle usage would be a non issue then. It is a good rule and should be a standard. No vehicles. Including, AA, MG's, Hummers, transport choppers. etc.. NO vehicles period.

6vs 6 would keep the fighting going..and allow for some good team tacs to be deployed.

there's my 2 cents. Go get em modders.
